Well it's been over 4 years since I last saw my old 3G but when I had it I believe I was running 205/45R-16 Pirelli's. On my current ride though I am running Falken Ziex ZE 512's in the 225/45-R-16 variety. Soon to be some nice fat 265's with some 17's though.

I"ve heard great things about the rs2s! I don't think you can go wrong with them, esp. for the price.

Not that I have a 3g, but I just put on a set of federal ss595s. $350 shipped for 4 tires (2 215/45/17s, 2 255/40s too wide, but oh well) and they have a 240 treadwear rating. Haven't really been able to drive the car hard as I've got some fender rub in the front, but that should be remedied this weekend.

Pretty good over all tire. Seem to wear well handle well. I'm thinking I might have 5k miles on them. For me this is what a tire should be on average but im just a tire snob.Run ok in the rain prolly the best for this size tire and the weight of the car. I run 205/50/15. I can go about 60 mph in a normal rain shower. There 99$ which is on the high side for that size. At the time the new Falken 615 had just come out so prices were the same and availablity was spotty.
I rate the old school Falken azenis sports much better handling dry cheaper as well. Of coures tire wear is low. Same with the Kumho ECSTA MX . The only thing that I dont get is these tires are like speed rated W or H were the BFG are rated Z. I like the Z rated carcass with the soft tread of the Falkens.
Over all I dont think I would buy BFG again.

Hey!

Check out the Michelin Pilot Sport Cup. It's wild.

Currently have Yokohama YK420 tires. They don't take wear on the track too well, as the corners wore off after a couple good autocrosses. BUT they did handle great. Keeping a stock 84 Accord up with some "sports cars" with suspension setups and those infamous Azenis tires. The Yokos are loud though. Squeal pretty much anytime you want them to. 205/50-15

Looking to possibly grab a set of DOT radials for the track on another set of fat fives. I'm leaning towards those Michelin Pilot Sport Cups as pointed out above:

http://www.tirerack.com/images/tires/michelin/mi_pilot_sport_cup.jpg

Or a set of these Yokohama ADVAN A048's

http://www.tirerack.com/images/tires/yokohama/yo_advan_a048_ci2_l.jpg

Or the yummiest looking tire I've ever found Avon Tech R-A

http://www.tirerack.com/images/tires/avon/avon_tech_ra_ci2_l.jpg

... or something else along those lines anyways. Going to run them at 215/50-15 or maybe even 225/45-15 if they make that size. Wheel spacers most likely necessary.

Man is this some serious tire pr0n or what?

The Pilot sport cup's are around 350-375 CDN a tire from that tire rack place. The Motegi Trak lite wheels are only 275ish, anybody find this stuff for cheaper?

these?

Dude there race tires the trade wear is 80 and theres just lil tread.

Quote:

Pilot Sport Cup DOT-Legal Competition tires are molded with less tread depth than typical street performance tires. Michelin Pilot Sport (Max Performance category) street tires are molded with about 10/32" of original center tread depth, while Pilot Sport Cup Competition tires are molded with just 6/32" of original center tread depth.

Michelin testing shows that a Pilot Sport Cup shaved tire at approximately 3.5/32" offers slightly more grip at the start of the tire's competition life. The time differential between shaved/heat cycled tires and full tread depth/heat cycled tires on a typical 38-40 sec autocross course can be as much as 0.6 seconds. And while these are statistically sound results, your results may vary.

Drivers must decide if they are willing to invest the cost of shaving and sacrificing approximately 2.5/32" of tread depth in exchange for a potential 0.6 second improvement. It all depends on how serious you are about your time spent at the track or in competition.

However all things considered, the absolute quickest time will likely be achieved by shaving and heat cycling Pilot Sport Cup tires.

I won't shave the tires, theres only 3/16 of tread to begin with.

0.6 Second improvement at the track will make a huge difference in a large group of people. Obviously you wouldn't want to daily drive on any DOT radials. They wear so quickly, at that price it would be crazy. Well worth it for the grip at the track or a spirited Summer drive.

That's better! Intended use? Driving it as hard as I can. Maybe some autocross, and a lot of winding mountain roads (we don't have any other kind...)
Probably never in the rain, unless I get caught in it.

Dood you have the best mountain roads too. So many of them and so close to you too! I have to drive about 30 minutes to get to something as good as what's near your place.

Yeah i hear you. I have thought about going with a separate set of rims maybe even step up to 17's just for those ram around weekends like up on the Dragons tail etc.

I really dont think you could get 5k miles on them. I difenitely dont think they would be legal after 1k since the tread basically shreads off and they become slicks. rain ,well, its your life.

Bridgeston Potenza RE720 195/55/15

Great tyre, almost too good for Aerodeck, I can't break it or even make it scream!
The wheel protection(the edge of the wheel is sit deep from the tyre sidewall) is fantastic for my wife, haha.
Amazing in wet, very safe you can drive like mad.
It is stiff for family with H&R spring.
For this reason, I m thinking about Michelin Pilot or Yoko AVS.
