so how did you fix it? those quick fixes often become quick fails later. I'm curious becaue I know how long it takes to properly repair rust. that piece under my tail lights had to be almost rebuilt from scratch on one side. filling them with bondo doesn't do anything but hide it and let it spread unseen.

i hope you know that sanding off rust then bondoing over it won't stop it from rusting, you would need to get new rear quarters

you can get products from eastwood that will actually stop the rust, but they aren't cheap. now to use them you will have to sand out and knock out all that bondo down to bare meal. bondo isn't meant to be structural or fill gaps. if you can't weld the least you could do is glass those panels in from behind then fill properly. that will last for quite a while if you treat the rust properly. it's not a perfect solution, but a better one then what you are doing now.

yeah i would use fiberglass insted of bondo...cuz bondo is a sponge once water get to it the paint will start poping up.

well...my dx was rear ended and it was pushed it into the car infront...so the guys that fixed it...drilled holes and pulled out the dent from the hood. then they covered it in bondo....primer and then paint....well as you knoe the hood gets very wet..and then water got in and cracked my paint....i had to grind it down to bare metal and use fiberglass...then i used bondo and primered it.

what I meant was use fiberglass behind the hole in the body, for something for the filler to go on top of. you need something for structure. If it was me I would use metal, those holes can be fixed as long as you get all the rusted metal out. if the paint bubbles on top of filler after it was primed, thats something wrong with the paint application. good filler shouldn't absorb water. especially after it was primed. probably cheap primer. if anyone says they need to drill holes in your car body to pull dents, run!!! thats something from the dark ages of body work. any reputable shop will eithier use a stud welder,or use a slide hammer that welds to the body to pull the dents. the old method of drilling holes is still one of the nightmares of modern car restorers when they strip off paint. it does more damage in the long run then the original damage.

fiberglass is like bondo....you use 36 grit to shape it and then 40 and 80 then you bondo and primer...
