i was driving then all of a sudden the RPMs shot down to 0 and the oil light came on. When i tried to start it again it made a weird nosie heres a video of how it sounds. I just recorded it a few min. ago so its dark.
View My Video (http://video.tinypic.com/player.php?v=35izsdk)
EDIT: while i was driving home when i was stopped at a light or when im stopped and in gear the oil light would flicker like someone was playing with the wires but i didnt hear anything out of the ordinary. It seemed like it was only flickering from the vibration.

MessyHonda

yeah maybe the oil pump gave up. get a toga one...they are high performance

ahmad89
02-07-2007, 06:31 PM
but if the oil pump gave then why does it make that sound? it kinda seems to be like a starter or something. Oh i forgot to add lemme edit.

02-07-2007, 06:33 PM
wow that sounds like its spinning fast :O maybe a snapped cam belt? since the oil light on, and the pump runs off the cam belt, and the starter motor spins way too fast (not having to turn the cam), thats my theory anyway

ahmad89
02-07-2007, 06:35 PM
Tomorrow im going to remove the plastic that covers the belt see if it snapped.

MessyHonda
02-07-2007, 06:36 PM
also check for spark

ahmad89
02-07-2007, 06:37 PM
How do i check for spark?

A18A
02-07-2007, 06:39 PM
take out a spark plug, ground it (i ground it with jumper leads), get someone to turn the key and see it theres spark

ahmad89
02-07-2007, 06:48 PM
wut about the gas thats going to come out through the hole?

russiankid

wut about the gas thats going to come out through the hole?
There shouldn't be, i mean yes it will be there but your not turning the engine over for a long period of time. You are just turning it over for a few secs to see if the spark plugs get spark, if they don't, then as mentioned above, your timing belt has snapped.

MessyHonda
02-07-2007, 06:53 PM
i would not take out the sparkplug out i would just get the wire...and see if you can see any spark...when my wire failed it was only running on 3 cly and it was zaping my exhaust manifold.

ahmad89
02-07-2007, 06:53 PM
well can i just take off the cover and see if it snapped? Also where are the screws its too dark and im too tired and annoyed to find out.

A18A
02-07-2007, 06:54 PM
wut about the gas thats going to come out through the hole?
haha, i actually never thought about that lol..... BOOM!, but like russian kid said, you'll only be turnng it over for a few secs... and try ground it away from the spark plug holes if ya can :)

A18A
02-07-2007, 06:55 PM
well can i just take off the cover and see if it snapped? Also where are the screws its too dark and im too tired and annoyed to find out.
i think theres only 2 screws on both sides near the bottom of the cover, just take out them and pry it off

ahmad89
02-07-2007, 06:56 PM
so basically i just unplug the sparkplug wires then unscrew the spark plug and put the spark plug in the wire and have it sit somewhere its not contacting anything then have someone crank the car?

MessyHonda

if i remember you have to take off the valve cover to take off the plastic part....if not make a hole...like on my pic on my sig......lol jp

No, there are two bolts near the bottom of the valve cover that hold the timing belt cover on. I know this because i had to remove mine when i did my water pump, and i didn't touch the valve cover.

MessyHonda
02-07-2007, 07:07 PM
i dont remember when i did my timing belt now....i know it has 2 10mm bolts on the side...i thought it went under the valve cover

ahmad89
02-07-2007, 07:07 PM
Sweet but where do you live messy? Address would be better so i can use mapquest.
I will check out the belt tomorrow.

It does go under it, but thats why the valve cover has a special grove on it. The cover snaps into that grove then you put the bolts in.

POS carb
02-08-2007, 12:40 PM
i heard it, it sounds like there is low compression.
Take the distributor cap off and see if it spins. if not then the timing belt is broken.
make sure your spark plugs are not loose

ahmad89
02-08-2007, 01:10 PM
i took off the plastic cover on the timing belt and there it is the belt either snapped or went off track but i saw a small loop part at the bottom left and tried to pull it up a bit i saw some tear on it. I called my dad and were going to tow the car to a honda dealer and were gettin a deal, changing the water pump, and all the belts including the timing belt for about 400 bucks.

damn boy.....you still getting raped....i changed all that shit for 120....honda water pump, tensioner, timing belt, the other 2 drive belts and valve cover gasket...only took 3 hours of my life....oh yeah that is when i put my adjustable cam gear on too

ahmad89
02-08-2007, 02:58 PM
change of plans buddy boy, we took the car to this shop that we know and they're doing the same thing for less than half the price.

02-08-2007, 03:31 PM
Well I didn't hear the pistons slamming into the valves in the video, so they must have come to a mutual arrangement. I hope your timing belt didn't break or slip a few teeth, that is normally the end for a 20 year old car.

Have a nice day

ahmad89

i looked at the gear it was fine actually seems kinda new i just hope that it didnt bend any valves or anything.

shepherd79
02-09-2007, 07:37 AM
i knew they didnt, just to get a better grip on the belt then?
no not really.
just get a good quality belt. OEM will work great or Goodyear brand will work too.

PS. i can't wait to see what else fall off or breaks on your car.
It is just like a roller coaster, everyday you get some kind new problem.

ahmad89
02-09-2007, 07:40 AM
Well they already have a belt that they're gonna put it but if anything happens they will fix it free.

ahmad89
02-09-2007, 12:57 PM
good news my car has been fixed, changed all the belts and the water pump and its ready to go gonna pick it up when my mom gets home. The guy says that the belt for the alternator was bad thats why it wasnt charging right, so hopefuly after its been driving for awhile it still starts right up. will keep yall updated as always. thanks everyone for your input.

ahmad89
02-09-2007, 02:32 PM
lol messy i got it now jsut got back the car feels sluggish until a lil above 3k rpms when it starts to reall pull kinda feels like turbolag. is that normal? and also is smoke suppose to kinda puff out from the breather filter? when i popped the hood with the car running i saw some puffs of smoke come out not much just a little bit. should i put the hose back on?

NO, don't sell it. your car is like day time car soap opera for this forum. everyday there is something new with it.
Keep the car. you will be sorry if you sell it.
You put so much money into it, it would be stupid to sell it at this time.

ahmad89
02-09-2007, 02:40 PM
lol shep, the price we're selling it for evens out so we dont lose any money that we put into it alo i saw that they only changed the timing belt and the alternator belt which pissed me off and confused me, the other two belts do look good but the one thats on the top left part has small threads sticking out but only a few threads.

MessyHonda
02-09-2007, 02:53 PM
lol...yeah now you can get a lil fuel injected hatchie or a sedan...lol

ahmad89
02-09-2007, 03:00 PM

Yes guys I am going to miss this, at first it was like watching Speed channel when they play 12 commercials between segments.... aggrivating, but I too have come to enjoy helping Ahmad89, only when he is nice. It is way cool how everybody even the silent bystanders step in to help too.:bong: :bong:

Ahmad89, sounds like the car has one tooth off on timing belt, or it just has to be driven on the interstate a couple of fifty miles or so. :welcome:

Roodoo you have gimme crap when i havnt given you any but you were joking so its all good. i really do appreciate everyone's help and advice and i wanna thank everyone from the bottom of my heart. If i could i would invite all of you to a big BBQ meet at my place but its not big enough and its too far for most and im only 17 kinda hard to arrange something like that. BUT CHEER UP! i still have the car and will still drive it until its sold i will take some finaly pictures when i wash it which might be sunday since i have to work tomorrow and when i get home im going to have alot of people over. I will make sure to take some engine shots.

hey dude, you take the car back and just politely mention the problem. Keep in mind the car is old and the whole car nor the way it runs is their total responability. Just the part they fixed is.

Pictures of the ahmad89 mobile would so rock... hurry
