buy degreaser from like supercheap auto or some shit and then use the whole can on it and waterblast the crap out of it
the black paint may flake off by the way

wipe valve cover with a rag to remove large amounts of oil and dirt. use carb cleaner or engine degreaser to get the rest of the oil off the valve cover.

I would use carb cleaner, spray and wipe off. The degreaser stuff has to be washed off with water, which is a bigger deal, as you should protect the distributor/coil etc with baggies. It's better if you're cleaning the whole engine compartment.

I would take it off and soak int in some simple green or other degreaser for a few days if you have a spare. The oil on those things are cape up for years so its going to take some soaking to loosen it all up

Wire wheel on the end of a drill. Strip off the paint, wipe down with laquer thinner, and respray it. Nothing will look better. Plus you won't be pissed off after you spend hours scrubbing it and it still looks like crap. I've learned that one myself.

Supercheap Auto have some degreaser for like $5 a can, works really well too.

Most of the products you guys mention probably aren't even available in NZ.

Brake cleaner will strip spraypaint, and I wouldn't recomend it around rubber. If you get it on car paint just wipe it off quick.
