I haven't installed it yet that is just test fitting so all i have to do is install it when I'm ready to put everything else on. I welded a piece of square 1.5" OD 1/8" thick tube inside the top of the bumper to reinforce it since I cut about half of the bumper off.

Thanks guys, depending on the weather and the amount of time i have to work on it, I should be finished with the project in a few weeks. I test fitted the bumper with the skin on an I need to trim a little from each side of the lower grill area to make the charge pipes fit, hopefully as stealth as possible.

For now I won't be doing anything to this motor internally, and will build my other motor for turbo then swap it in.

Are you going to use the 86-87 bumper? Cuase theyres like no way to hide it with that one. Im personally switching to the 88-89 bumper cause they have a little more room to stuff a intercooler behind.

what kinda manifold and turbo are you going to use?

I'm going to use the 86-87 bumper, I looked at it the other night when i had the intercooler on and it looks like i will have to trim the lower grill a little on the ends to make it fit. The intercooler fits fine its the charge pipes that are in the way.

As for the manifold, I bought it from Justin but I will post some pics of it when i get around to it.

in my picture the intercooler was zip ties on for mock up. its actually going to be mounted upsidedown from that. i trimmed off the little lip on the bumper support as wide as the intercooler and its like a perfect fit for my 89 bumper. you really cant see it but i may still paint it black.

exhaust

wire wideband O2 to the ecu
catch can
crank case ventilation system(uses the exhaust to pull a vacuum)
a few other small things I can't think of right now.

why not remove the whole thing? all the bumper needs is a 1/8 steel rod and some flat bars near the supports to hold it, and the bumber didn't sag or warp on me. In fact it fixed my damn sagging bumper.

Awesome work though :)

Still need to do:

catch can
crank case ventilation system(uses the exhaust to pull a vacuum)
.

how are you going to run these?

I havent decided yet. kinda feel lik just filtering the evap with the catch can to the atmosphere, but im kinda scared to the reprocussions of not having any vacuum to pull the crankcase gases out.:(

Vanilla Sky
03-01-2007, 01:56 PM
weld a bung in at 45* and you'll pull a nice vacuum. more than enough for your crankcase gasses. use a check valve for good measure and you're good to go.

florida 3geez are taking over we need to be bigger and better than the cali guys...lol Looks great Eric! what psi will you be running? It will be killer to have a quick spooling setup while autocrossing. Maybe i'll start saving up and collecting parts and in a few years we will have atleast 3 turbo'd 3geez in florida:violin: I have my autocross class Sunday and then hopefully get alot of practice in and we could have an autocross meet that would be badass, the miata guys would never see it coming...

EricW

I will get some pics on Sat. when I'm at the show. I don't really have much time during the day to take pics since I have class after i get off work on week nights.

I'm running 8psi. It spools between 3 and 4 grand so its pretty decent for autocross.

I also found out tonight that a stock clutch doesn't hold whatever amount of power that I'm putting down. So I guess its time to put the 6 puck in.

Its a 25"x6"x3" cca intercooler. Its running decent right now, i still need to take care of all of the vacuum/boost leaks. I also need to put my 6 puck clutch in since the stock unit will only hold on or two pulls when the boost hits and then it will just slip every time after that:thumbdn: . I will work on fine tuning the map after i get the new clutch in and all of the leaks sealed. I'll get some better pics of all of the parts today and try to get them uploaded later.

This shows the placement of the crankcase ventilation system in the exhaust system. I had to cut about and inch off the end of the tube to make it fit without hitting the floor pan.

EricW
03-14-2007, 07:24 PM
I've already changed the look of the engine a little since I covered the charge pipes in the engine bay with the silver heat wrap (which makes a difference in the intake temps). I'm going to put the 6 puck clutch in and finally install my big brake kit when the legend rear calipers arrive sometime in the next week, although its supposed to rain for the next day or two.

I also need to connect the crankcase ventilation system to the valve cover and pcv valve, since I went out to the beach and got the size hose that i needed from the Lowes out there since the Lowes in town has been out of it for the last week. I also want to straighten up the wiring in the engine bay and put some wire loom on the loose wires.

EricW
03-14-2007, 07:30 PM
more!

That's all have for now. I will have to take more when I put the car back up on jack stands to drop the tranny.

I forgot i also need to get some 3" exhaust pipe to move the exhaust so it doesn't hit the sway bar, if i can manage to make it work with the rear disc swap. I sure i can make something work even if i have to fab new brackets for the end links.

Maybe next Florida meet. I may take it to NOPI in September with the rest of the local guys to help with the club participation, since we are teaming up with some of our friends from Pensacola. Since we swept the 1st and they took 2nd place at the Spring Fling, local car show.

Well Drove the car last night and I'm going to have to get used to the 6 puck since it grabs much harder then the oem clutch. Now I just need to finish breaking it in and then finish up the tuning. I also need to check/replace the thermostat since the car never warmed up last night when i took it for a drive.

so you have no ac ?

I am most definately keeping the ac as long as it doesnt cost to much to keep.

Im probably gonna ditch the power steering fluid cooler loop behind the bumper and just run it back to the reservoir to make room for the intercooler. I really dont think it does much.

EricW
03-17-2007, 08:29 AM
I have no A/c but i kept the power steering. I replaced the stock power steering cooler with the permacool unit that you can see in the bottom of this picture.

EricW
03-17-2007, 08:42 AM
I had thought about putting an oil cooler on the other side but i was talking to one of my friend and he said that when he install one on his car that the oil pressure dropped, but if you had the pump shimmed that you could compensate for the drop in pressure.

If I did install a cooler i would probably go ahead and install a oil filter relocation kit also. That way i could run the lines all at once and I wouldn't have to drip oil down that back of the block anymore.

guaynabo89
03-17-2007, 08:51 AM
My oil presure runs at about 35-40 at idle and shoots up to like the 90's at higher rpm.

Of course I havent driven it in like 4 -5 months so I cant recall exactly. I know thats well whithin parameters and kinda on the high side. The only thing I ever changes was a brand new oem honda oil pump when I rebuilt and that was it.

EricW
03-17-2007, 08:56 AM

did you put one of those oil restrictors on your turbo to keep it from getting t much oil pressure?

EricW
03-17-2007, 09:03 AM
No, I forgot to ask if justin had, since i got it from him. I might look into it now to see if it raises the oil pressure since the pressue did drop after i put the turbo in.

well its supposed to drop the pressure to the turbo cause supposedly the high pressures can make the seals go bad or somethign of the like. My friends turbonetics turbo came with one while mine did not.

Where did you get that strut bar? Looks like a bunch of stuff in that engine bay! SWEET!!! I bet that car is going to haul some nuts! Keep shooting pictures!
The strut bar is one that i bought from Justin before I had intentions to convert to efi and it was built to work with a carbed car using a civic air box or something other than the stock air box on a carb. I need to repaint it the paint is starting to crack and get knocked off from the heat in the engine bay, but I hope the temps will be down now since I wrapped the down pipe and put the turbo blanket on.

Eric, when I either get my truck lowered and a new clutch in it, or I get my car's transmission swapped, I'm 100% going to come to one of the autocrosses up there. Since mine's an LX, we can consider my car a "baseline" and your car a tuned version. I'm 100% cool with you driving my car. I just want to see how huge of a difference your mods have made.

I added a oil restrictor the the feed line to the turbo today and boost leak checked everything. I found several leaks. Had to pull all of the charge pipes off and weld several spots on each of them. The only leak i couldn't get rid of was going through the waste gate and I didn't feel like pulling it apart to find out what needed to be sealed. Tomorrow I'm going to get some exhaust pipe and weld the muffler in, maybe it will quite it down a little bit.

Oh and if no one noticed in the last set of pictures I posted I removed the A/c idle control valve. It cleaned up that end of the intake manifold a little.

Well the muffler is on. I'll have to get some pics of it tomorrow. I will also get some pics of my tuning set up in the car.

Its a magnaflow. No resonator. I don't think i need a resonator unless i wanted the car to be almost totally silent.

I think this is the muffler. http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/shopexd.asp?zone=main&id=429 The measurements are pretty much the same.

More pics. Tuning setup and muffler

Not very often. I can raise the stand or remove it so it will be out of the way of the passenger. I believe the stand was out of a crown vic, but i had to fab new mounts for it. Brand new they go for $400 ($200 for the top and $200 for the bottom) the top is universal so it will fit in different vehicles.

I've been having a problem with the analog outs on my wideband not putting out what they where supposed to and i just contacted innovate motor sports on their forum. I followed the instructions on how to diagnose the problem and the constant 5v the outputs were putting out didn't change. So now I have to return the LC-1 to them and hopefully i will get a new one.
