my 81 hatch

Hello everyone im new to website but been a bit around 1stgencivic. I own a 1981 honda accord LX 5 speed and yes i love it to death. Theres so much to work on this car, that i really dont know where to begin with :lol: I do want to restore to its original, but as well with some mods. Do want an egine swap but that wont be many years ahead...in the meantime will work on EK1 engine. First thing that i wish to work on is the brakes, springs, and shocks thats the only thing for now i want to mod it and i know it will be very difficult to find after market stuff.

Yeah buddy! I'm working on my 81 hatch as well. I see that you've got the LX model! Awesome man! And 5-speed to boot. May the first thing I suggest be installing some Koni fully-adjustable shocks.

$60.00 for a full set of Koni's! You can't beat that for value. They are a little bit of work to install, but I'm a dumbass and I put them in my 84. I'll link ya the how-to I wrote if you like.

I'm sure you could find a set of springs to wrap around those Koni's as well. That little hatch would handle so nicely! It would be sweet to see someone do it... 1900lbs is a great starting point.

Not another '81!!!! everyone has one!
Looks a sad but solid starting point with plenty of potential, & the blue is one of my favorite Accord colours.

I've gone a Brake upgrade to 4whl disc's -though it involves wheel-stud change from 4x120 to 4x100 so you have to be prepared for new wheels as well.

Thanks all of yall, just waiting on my 1981 service manual book to arrive in my mail. Before i start anything that i stated on my first post, i do need to fix two major things. Water pump will need to be change and also order a clutch kit, water pump is taken care of it even came with a pulley for a good price, but still looking for a good clutch kit. Found a couple in ebay, can you guys give me some comments on which one would be better?

The Exedy clutch kit is the one you want. The others, like "QUALITEE" and "eClutchmaster" (Not Clutchmasters, which is a reputable company), I would be scared of. Exedy has a pretty good reputation, and I do believe they make lots of OEM clutches for different automotive companies.

Sounds like you're doing it right. Start with that factory service manual, and get it reliable before anything else. Good to see someone not buying wings and accessories and wheels before the car is driveable.
