Hey guys, I haven't been on here for a while. I was looking at eaby today and say this auction http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1988-Honda-Accord-No-Reserve-MUST-SELL_W0QQitemZ140087919319QQihZ004QQcategoryZ6254Q QssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem#ebayphotohost ing
It says it has a bad alternator. Do you think it could make it 170miles? I could bring an extra battery.

i would get an lx-i since that one has alot of miles and those carbs tend to be trouble

you could always go buy a alt. and take it out there and replace it before the trip home, or just risk it, i'd take maybe 2 or 3 good batteries just in case. good thing its manual so you can push start it if shit gets worse

If the alternator is totally dead would it not run at all?

... are you buying it to drive or as a parts car?

Does the car become unregisterable when they sell it as a parts/salvage?

Well I'm sure it needs work so I was hoping to fix it up and drive it. And idk.

it'll run if you have a good battery. even though there's not as much electronics as the efi cars, the spark plugs still need life.

my battery in my ol 3gee lasted about 2 hours since i owned it without the alt till it wouldnt start no more, thats why i said to take a extra 2 or 3 batteries

Shit you could swap alternators in a couple hours. If that's all that's wrong with it than you'll be good to go. I guarantee you if you try it any other way you'll be fucked. I drove my 3G with a disconnected alternator once and it killed the battery within 20 minutes.

but for all you know the alt is fine and the wires came off

or it could just be the brushes, you can replace them without even taking out the alt.

It's true, my alternator wire came off from time to time. Check that first.

it alll depends on the condition of the batteries you are gonna use. My vw alternator belt shredded once, i made the 45 minute 40 milesdrive home, came into my house for awhile, went back out, started the car, then made the drive to the next town over to my dads garage to change it out. I got shit lucky.
