Just curious but is an 88 Lxi hatchback based in any way off a AE86 trueno? There are several similarities between these two cars. Maybe honda liked the style and wanted their own version?

i think if i remember right that our accord HB's are the same wheelbase only i think that the accord is 3" overall wider in wheelbase i could be wrong tho

They do look strikingly similar. People always tell me my car looks like a trueno, or an AE86.

I wonder if those front bumpers would fit the hatchies?

Not even close to the same, except for looks, sorta.

The corollla is rwd, has a 4age (at least the GTS versions), some had stock lsd, it has a solid rear axle, it has pretty decent aftermarket support (swaps, suspension, etc).

So basically no similarities.

Gotta love that kit

hahahaha why did you put a 3gee bumper on a corolla? thats funny, i can picture it in my head

lol like i said in some previous thread, force a 3gee body to fit a trueno and people will think you have a RWD 3gee :P

You are a little off, but here are the numbers

3gee
Wheel base: 102.4"
Width (Track): 58.3"

AE86
Wheel base: 95.7"
Width (track): 56.1"

I think it would fit, maybe put a few slits in the upper part to allow the Corolla bumper to wrap over the accords one then apply the heat gun to get it to mold to the correct shape creating new corners. It'll probably cause the bumper to taper in near the bottom but I don't think it would look bad.

Or just slice down the middle and fill in the center.

lol

no where near close. overall the corolla is smaller and more poorly built. the interior panels are to plastic-ee even the gts ones(whiich are always broken)

the light switch adn the wiper switch arms are always broken or on their way out. The exteriors are pretty cheaply put together also with bumpers that dont fit all to well and tailightsthat are always getting full of watter.

I use to hate it when people use to compare my hatch to corrolas. theyre not on the same level as te accord.

Ive swapped motors and trannies in many of them for the gts twincam fi models not to mention swapping complete wring harnesses and brake lines etc to accomodate the gts rear disc end in lsd and non lsd form.

the only reason anyone notices them know is because of drifting. Us Puertoricans been hookin up sapitos ( ae86's) since day one.

Other than that they are nice little cars with more aftermarket than the 3rd gen accord and pretty peepy with the twicam fi motor.:D

yupp i gues our accords are much wider overall than i rememebed,
someone told me the hatchies here in america wre only the GTS trim level i dont know how true that is i know there is the base line the Sr-5 and the gts trim lines /packages

and ill tell you one thing i drove 2 of my friends the corolla's at my local race track one hatchie and the other a rwd coupe and ill tell yah the hatchie feels oddly similar to the accord hb but what creeped me out was hittin the gas and the rear coming out insted of understeer with the front lol
dont worry the 92's and 86's coups look similar at a glance

i need to post some picts but i got alot of ppl at school not believing my hatch is a honda, just look at the badges thats wut i get for sliding around in the snow :Owned:

No, both the sr5 (with the carbed 3tc motor) and the gts (with the 4age, lsd, etc) were offered in the US, though there's a lot of sr5-->gts conversions floating around.

The chassis themselves seem pretty capable, and, all the aftermarket, it's not to had to build a fun little car.

tell me about it my friends father (the one i built the rx-7 engines for ) asked for my help with swapping a 20v AE111 engine into a Ae92, gettin it in was easy, onlt thing i really had to fabricate was a tranny mount b/c it was off by liek 2 inches the wireing was hell tho , to me it sounds like a suzuki gsxr b/c of the ITB's quick and fuck i wish we had easy stuff liek that for our cars :(

Eh, if I'm going to be driving something from the mid to late 80s (my 89 s13 notwithstanding ;) ), I"d rather have a corolla than a 3g, mostly b/c of the aftermarket but also too the 4ag is pretty much bulletproof even if you beat on it. It's a great little motor.

i know very good engine , the one we took out of the AE92 (note he is the orginal owner of the car ) the body has like somewehre around 215k i think, and believe it or not original clutch...... good thing we swapped the tranny too b/c there was nothing left of the clutch when i looked at it lol . as for me im going even more retro 70's z series for the next project

The Corolla AE86 is bred for racing, with its rear-wheel drive technology and state of the art engine. On the other hand, the Accord is designed to be a people mover for the proletariat class. To be totally honest, I would give up my 3Geez for an AE86 any day.

one of the shops in san bernardino, jdm autohaus, has a trueno with a nissan motor swap. i'm going to guess that it's an sr20 simply bc that's the cool thing as far as nissan 4 cyl motors go (though i do know the ca18 is out there too). it looks like it's a project on hold, but the motor is in the body and it looks all wired up and has a monster turbo. i'll take pix next time i'm in there...

Yeah, there's a couple people around here doing that same swap.

And another guy is doing an f22c into his corolla. Should be nuts when it's done.

nope its all the 84-87 corrollas. because of the headlights when open look like a frog.

sapito= little frog

now the sapito is the coupe (male)

and sapita is the hatch ( female)
