engine acting different

well not in a bad way on the way home i was going up a hill i decided to gun it up the hill didnt really have too much get up and go then at the next hill from a stop i got up to 100 anybody have any ideas what might be going on also the idle rises to just below 1,000 rpms when i was sitting in traffic for a good 30 mins its almost like the fast idle was tring to kick in

Well 1,000 rpm isn't that bad but you can knock off 100 rpm or so. For Auto it is lower because Autos stay in gear, in neutral it's okay for it to be 1,000. If you need to set it any higher then 1,100 to hold idle then something is wrong that should be fixed.

750-900 is the norm though.

Why do you think your fast idle is kicking in?

The idle controler on the left side / cable side of the carb can also raise the idle speed, usually because of a vaccum leak on one of the hoses connected to the same metal vacuum tube connected to #6 which goes to the Throttle controller diaphragm.
Or the diaphragm itself may be leaking.

The Fast idle is at the back of the carb. Idle controller at the front.

You also have the throttle stop screw which should be set to the lowest best idle speed recommended.

to check on the throttle controller diaphragm unscrew the adjustment screw so it's no longer touching the throttle lever, even when no vacuum is applied to the diaphragm. Go for a drive and see if the idle raises again like you said.

If you have a vacuum guage you'll be able to check for leaks in the diaphragm
You can also apply manifold vacuum to the diaphragm to see if the adjustment screw moves away from the throttle lever and operates correctly.

in gear its around 900 right below 1,000 in park it goes to just above 1,000 just bearly i have an intake so maybe its a vac leak i knle im missing a nut on the egr valve its pluged up but maybe air getting in there is messing with it

That can cause a vacuum leak... it can also cause exhaust to get past the valve.

ya thats what it is a bet cause its not sealed all the way with that one bolt lol could also explain how the engine has power sometimes and sometimes it doesnt
