Map Light

i've always wanted a map light in my 3gee for convenient lighting. but of course its not real easy to get ahold of one for our cars. i had thought to get one out of an intergra 2nd gen. but hadnt really looked much. so last month i found a nice map light in a late 80's 300ZX. looked to be the right size and wouldnt look out of place being from the 80's. so here's what i have. it should fit nicely right on my headliner. i'm going to redo the headliner and upper plastic trim black so i have the headliner out for now. here's a pic to give you an idea. i plan to wire this in with the dome light since there is constant power, all i need to do is ground the switches on the map light.

you can get a maplight for our cars on ebay.

i've only had luck finding the dome light, never have i found a map light for a 3gee unless it was from a seller from asia or europe. but even then, havent been able to find one in a while.

I converted my dome light to LED and while I was doing that I put in 3 super bright led's to shne on the dash area. It does a great job lighting up anything you want to read.

^ hmm good idea. i have some bright white leds laying around. might just have to see how those will work.

I used one from a ford truck,it has the center dome light,then the two forward facing map lights. I'll hunt down the picture,give me a minute

here ya go, I made a substructure for the light so it would attach to the original mounting holes. I also built an overhead console ahead of it for the cooling fans/oil cooler fan/xm radio controls. thats kind of like an aircraft overhead switch console,that idea goes back to the first hondas,which had switches like that inspired by aircraft.

yeah, that looks great. i was trying to get something like that but no luck. at least the one i have kinda matches. i'm probably going to paint it black so it matches the new headliner when i'm done.
