Well, this week-end I decided to install the Mugen MF204A cover on the B20A. The cover fits well except the bolt on the right side, near the timing belt. I'll have to get a longer fitting bolted in the head )ot find a ay to extend this one. I'll also need a fitting for the breather tube (probably a Russel black fitting).

I'm not sure if I like this one better than the stock painted that I have. It's definitely a head turner tough. Depending on the angle I really like the Mugen cover. It's really shiny from the powdercoat job and the light in the shop isn't the best.

I'll let you judge by yourself.

looks good, you just need some contrast in the lettering.

for some reason the grey makes the engine bay feel a bit bland for me. though it does look good, i still think you should polish the letters. :D

Yeah, I wanted to polish the letters too. However, the Japanese Mugen emblem is so thin and shallow that I might eat through the surroundings (which would be really bad). I decided to leave it like this for now.

I also think it blands the enginebay a bit. I guess it's from the fact that the cover has no oilcap and the breather isn't installed yet. I wanted it to match the OEM MF204A color but I'm not sure anymore LOL.

It looks like crap, you better sell it to me instead of having that ugly thing in your enginebay.

Aaah who am I kidding, it looks awesome, I think you found a color that matches the original pretty well, matching it 100% is unlikely to be possible with powdercoat.
Is the opening on the left side of the cover the breather channel? Is it threaded?

I think the blue valve cover is a great color, should have painted the Mugen blue!

How do you put oil in it?

Look good. definatelyan eye catcher.

Plus when you tell them it was on a b20 f1 engine the ricers will part and all shall bow down to the carotman!

lol

But yeah man I think a differnt color is a must for you along with polished letters. When you said you couldnt do it cause it was too thin......Can you just get a sanding block and go to work with a little wetsand?

BITESIZE
03-12-2007, 01:23 PM
Use a dremel with the polisher bit/exacto knife to scrape off small amounts to take the paint off of the lettering.

it looks nice, but the oem honda one looks better imo. bland is exactly the word i was looking for when i saw the pic of it in your bay. it's :hot:, but i think it'd be hotter if you painted it a different color and also if you went ahead and sanded the letters. but still, it's not bad right now. certainly looks much better than mine does.

That looks great! I love it! Definitely different and unique, I like it. I think it may look better with polished letters though, use a dremel, they are your friend. =)

Brings tears to my eye:crying:
That is really sweet looking carotman , but how do you add oil?

carotman
03-12-2007, 07:55 PM
Lol, you guys convinced me, I'll sand down the letters tomorrow (At least, the M U G E N ones)

The MF204A cover has been designed for an engine with a dry sump system. This means I'll have to either get a dry sump system (not going to happen soon) or just add oil through the breather tube. I can always remove the valve cover to do an oil change. I know it's a pain in the ass but the car is far from a daily driver. for the past years, I did an average of 6k miles per season. This means 1 oil change a year hahaha.

The reason the cover looks bland is because of the pale color and the fact that it's so slick compared to the bumpy OEM one. I really wanted to keep the Original color (or be as close as possible). This cover is part of the Honda Racing history. I'm sure it'll look better with the Russel fitting threaded into the breather tube :D

If I can get my hands on a second cover, I might do a wilder color scheme on it.

I really like the Blue mugen cover you did frantik!

a light sand and light polish would look nice. i'm sure you're willing to take some time to do it right. let us know what you do.

I sanded down the letters today. I used 180 grit sandpaper. It sure took a long time. I think it really gives it a nicer look. I'm really happy with the result. I might polish the powder coat but I'm not too sure if I want to do that yet The middle part where the spark plugs go would be a pain to do.

Here's what it looks like:

http://carotman.no-ip.com:8888/personal_site/my_accord/Mugen/mugen_sanded2.jpg

You can see my intrigued cat on this one :D. This gives you an idea of what the brushed aluminium reflection looks like on the letters.
http://carotman.no-ip.com:8888/personal_site/my_accord/Mugen/mugen_sanded3.jpg

It's really better in person. For some reason, the gray looks lighter on the pictures. You can also really see the brushed effect.

Suggestion
I wonder if you could use an oil filler neck from a van, you know the ones that go from the hood area-back to the valve cover. Use that and configure it through or beside your intake manifold, using the tab made to the neck to attach it to the motor/or transmission. Use a Y pvc type fitting tapped in below your oil separator/breather box on the hose that goes directly into the oil pan. Use short hoses to attach to pvc or whatever type Y fitting.
There are several different type GM, Ford or other vehicles that use a oil filler tube that could fit.
( assuming your B series has that type system on it)

carotman
03-14-2007, 01:12 PM
Hmm that's not a bad idea. The B20A does have that oil separator for the PCV system.

I'll try to find a hose and a "Y" that would work for this.
