hey yall, i got my 87 parts car and pulled the egne and tranny! i was wondering what problems to watch out for? does our car have a slave cylinder? is their vacuum lines go to it? can i live with an 87 ecu or an 89 auto ecu? axle sizing?

goto marketplace for a 87lxi h/b parts list

Any part of the car in particular you are asking about like the engine or tranny?? Or do you mean what is a common wear spot for the whole 3rd gen?? The 86/87 ECU will not work in a 88/89 and vise versa. The brakes have a vaccum assisted booster (one vaccum line) and a master cylinder. Axle sizing.....I know for 86/87, all passenger side's are the same while the driver's side is different between the 5 speed and auto and I'm sure it's the same for 88/89's.

vehichle speed sensor

which is not on the tranny on these.
its in the cluster. i think he meant this :
you will most likely have to change the power steering gear (the thing stuck in the top of the tranny where the speedo cable goes in). i checked them when i did my switch around and they werent the same from the auto i had. just look at them close

You said you pulled the engine and tranny which may have caused some of the confusion. Look at the how-to swap from auto to 5 speed in the how-to section. All the info you need is there.

even tho its all a20 series will it bolt up?
can i bypass having to get an ecu?
is thier a hole already made for the new pedal?

All 86-89's are the same. The only difference is the gear ratios between the carbed and EFI tranny. You can get away with using the auto ECU plus the 87 ECU will not work in your 89. The nuts holding the brake booster will also end up holding the pedal bracket (there are a 2-3 more nuts but you will see them when you take the bracket out of the donor car).
