Hello all I might as well introduce myself, My name is Josh I own a 1988 Honda accord lX w/ carb, I have owned it for over a year and whoever I baught it from decided to bypass the Cooling fans and I over heated the thing  so it still ran ok (or so I thought) and I was driving and downshifted into second at 55 MPH (not smart) anyways the car died I started it back up it died again and wouldnt start back up, long story short I took it to a shop and they told me I just broke my timing belt and it could be replaced by the next day (Smart me didnt know that when 3geezs break belts it also bends valves) so I said go ahead and do it, well got 3 minutes down the road from the shop and it happened again took it back, the belt broke again!, turns out I had a melted camshaft :wtf: so had the head rebuilt and about 3000 miles of drive it started smoking horibbly (Bottom end Fried! :gun: ) so I got a nissian maxima 93 nice car really was until started misfiring after only driving it 4000 miles, fuel injectors fried... Replaced them without replacing o rings, about 3 days later it burned up  F***, but I still had the 3geez so now it is undergoing engine rebuild and much more.. will post pics next

I like that your doing the work yourself, but that block looked clean as hell before you painted it, now it looks like a smurf. My opinion would be to not go for such a flashy look and just keep it nice and clean and mod the hell out of the motor and get weber. But if your into the flashy stuff and your looking for a bodykit let me know, i have one for sale.

Why'd you go with such an aggressive bore? .050 is supposed to be the limit on these blocks. Did either your block or your head get decked during their rebuilds?

I didnt notice that .050 was the bore you had it at,thats alot to bore out, did you do that by choice or was it necessary because of the condition of the block?

I'm also wondering if a stock carb will run that well. I know I'd be investing in a Weber myself.

Wow I got a lot of replies. Yes my colors are very cheesy I have been :Owned: but personally I like it so I guess thats what matters. and on the bore sizes everyone I talked to said that was just fine, I got a really good deal on the pistons and rings only cost me 15 bucks, and yes my block was pretty messed up, and thats the first I have heard about it being bad. every mechanic I talked to said it would be fine.

and I have a kid on the way so the hood is a cheap paint but again I like it.

and I painted the block because it started to build up rust and it started looking bad.

And honestly guys this is my first engine rebuild so I probably will do some things not so good but I have to learn somehow.

I would love to put a webber carb on it but im low on funds at the moment I just really need this thing up and running.

But anyways I am in the process on getting those stupid vaccum lines hooked up :banghead: My manual is OK with the diagram but very hard to follow. if anyone knows of a good resource on all the vaccum lines let me know, its really the only problem im gonna have, any help would be great.

tuxdreamerx
04-05-2007, 04:26 PM
oh and any pics that you guys could post of your 3geez that are carbed would be a awsome help, just really need pics of the intake manifold around the carb and all that so if anyone has a engine that has just been finished with the carb on it but you havnt put it in if you could take some good detail pics of that area (if your vaccum lines are hooked up already) Would be awsome! :)

I think I made a mistake can anyone tell me lol :banghead:

ok to the left were the freezeplug is I put one behind the water pump and I think a tube was supposed to go there not a plug, I can just take it out and fix it but I wanna make sure I f'ed up.

and also was I supposed to put a freeze plug where that lower one is it was smaller than the rest and the only one that size. does anyone have a diagram of where the freezeplugs go so I can double check before I drop this thing in. (its an a20a1)

im an idiot I asked the question about the freeze plug behind the water pump too soon I looked at my service manual and that tube defentily goes there :banghead: f*** but I still would like to know about that small freeze plug since the only thing my manual doesnt tell me is where the freeze plugs go....

russiankid
04-05-2007, 06:37 PM
I believe that small plug your talking about goes where you placed it. I remember reading Pico had a problem with that small one, and someone else talking about how they did not touch it because it did not come in the kit.

If it didn't work just leave the ac compressor off and you'll free up a little power. If you don't absolutely need power steering that can go too.

from what picopop told me the hoses and stuff do weigh a bit....he removed them and his engine bay looks clean and clutter free. you will save around 40-50 pounds of stuff...and one less thing that can go wrong.....you would notice some performance gain...but nothing radical

I disconnected my ac hoses and took the bracket back off my engine so I now will no longer have AC once I remove the fan off the radiator :) (Not like the AC worked anyways)

you're not removing both fans are you?
Because as fas as I know they will still both kick on

no im only removing the one for the ac. and I know the ac one wont kick on unless the ac works because remeber someone decided to bypass them before I had the car and I had to rewire and test. but I was figuring it would sound like I was removing them both lol. but no only the one for AC
