Well, I wanted to take a ride in my 87 hatch yesterday but it dicided not to start.

It sputered a bit the 1st time I cranked it but after that, there was just nothing expect the starter spinning the engine.

I first thought I flooded the engine but when I removed the spark plugs, they weren't that much soaked with gas like a flooded engine would look like. I'm still not 100% sure.

I'll have to find out. I just hope it's frozen water in the fuel lines (or clogged filter). I don't want to get into the carb rebuild job yet, I still have all the bodywork to do.

I'm just venting now. It was too dark outside yesterday to attempt any diagnosis on the car. The car has been rustproofed every year sine 1987 and all that accumulated grime in the enginebay makes working on it a real mess. At least it doesn't rust but it still sucks.

I'll keep you guys updated on this one lol.

I got the hatch in September guys :p

It wasn't that cold, I guess around 35F. In fact, the car didn't have any problem during the cold winter months. It's been freezing and thawing for the past few days and I didn't use the car for the past 3 weeks, this might be related. Condensation that froze somewhere could be the culprit.

We'll see what comes out of this. It's no big deal yet :D

if it is carbed you gotta pump the gas crank, let it rest a few seconds, pump, spin untill it makes an attempt to run, then the crank after that it should go.

If it is fuel inj, you have to reach over with your left hand and turn the key,,

Don't tempt me :p

I have one sitting in the shop and there are a few for sale here in Montreal...

I sure want to redo the EFI conversion on this one too. I got to take care of the body 1st.

Well. Didn't have time to work on it yesterday but I tried to start it again.

When I turn the key on the II position, I can hear the pump for like 1/2 second. I guess it's getting power and works. I'll look elsewhere.

Well, it's got spark but no fuel is comming to the carb

I unplugged the fuel feed hose but nothing came out ever. I'm getting closer to the solution. :D

The front filter is brand new and I checked it yesterday. It's fine.

I'll check if the pump is getting some voltage or not next week. I'm working all week-end :(

It turns out that the fuel cutoff relay is dead. I had a spare one here so it was an easy repair.

Now, the car dies randomly when it's idling. It sputters and catch up but sometimes not. I just hate carbs.... I'll try to figure this one out by adjusting the carb the way it should.

If it still does it.... that's going the be the beggining of my second EFI conversion :p

Hmmm samt thing happened this morning. I had to jump the fuel cut relay in order to start the car. I guess it wasn't getting any fuel. When I replugged the relay, everything worked.

I don't know what's happening here. When the car is cold, it will idle fine. When hot, it will randomly sputter and die. I can restart it instantly.

What could cause the relay to not provide enough fuel? Bad coil? Dried up carb bowl after sitting for a long time?
