So I got my new 12lb flywheel, "green" organic spung-hub clutch and "green" pressure plate from Clutchnet today! Just thought I'd post some pics! These should mate up to my Prelude tranny nicely when I swap it in next weekend.

The clutch has a "Raybestos" stamp on the clutch surface. Not sure if this is just an OEM-style Raybestos clutch, or if they just ordered the fricton surface from Raybestos. The clutch hub says "Patent Pending" "Custom Design" and "Clutchnet" on it. So I'll assume they just purchase the friction material from Raybestos.

The Pressure Plate is painted green. Likely since it's the "Green" level pressure plate. However, I noticed in the small etching that it says "EXEDY" on it with thier logo. I'm pretty sure that means Clutchnet didn't manufacture this themselves. But I'm okay with this, since Exedy has an excellent reputation as well.

The flywheel itself has no markings on it. So I'm guessing that it's custom machined by Clutchnet. Very high quality looking unit! Very finished looking. The cast iron parts (the friction surface and starter gear surface) are painted or coated with some kind of material to keep them from corroding during shipment and storage. Nothing looks cheap or chinsey about it, and I'm very excited to get it installed!!

However, since there are no timing marks on the flywheel, how might I go about setting my timing after this is done? Should I just copy the markings from my current flywheel onto this one with some paint?

Looks good, i just got my parts a few days ago from clutchnet. I get a red 2x pressure plate and kevlar solid hub disc. How much did you pay for the flywheel, like $250?

you should get them engraved in, i think that's how they are done originaly cause the paint on mine has came off, and there are still marks

Yep about $250. You just CAN NOT beat that price. And it seems to be a great quality product! I'll find out for sure when I put it in. But rjudgey and other users here recommend thier stuff highly, so I'm really confident. How much did you spend on your parts? And were you able to pick up a bearing and alignment tool without buying a whole clutch kit? (since clutchnet won't sell the tool)

I paid like $385 for my setup. As far as the allignment tool and bearing i have a pretty much new bearing since i did my 5-speed swap less then a year ago and got one then and i should have the allignment tool laying around somewhere.

Looks like youre gonna have a nice setup there  Cant wait for the install results so let us know what you feel after youre finished. Im really curiose as to the difference the flywheels gonna make and how the clutch grabs.

I'll snag some video of how my car revs before and after. That should be interesting. :)

Ive heard that you loose torque when going uphill with lightweight flywheels, is it even noticable?

Yeah what are the disadvantages?

2ndGenGuy
04-13-2007, 02:15 PM
Easier to stall, harder to modulate, more sensitive to slight throttle changes... That kinda stuff.

Pffffftttt..... F-that you got a lightweight flywheel who cares. LOL but im sure the advantages will outway the slight disadvantages. Plus itl make you into a better driver in the process, you know with relearning how to shift n-all :)

Any way you would weigh that flywheel? I called Clutchnet and the guy swears the site is wrong and it weighs 9lbs not 12. He wasn't very professional at all.

Yeah the customer service was a little bit wierd. I'll weigh the flywheel when I get home. I bet you spoke to the same guy I did. I called one morning at 8:00 and he goes "sorry this is shipping, customer service is open at 9, call back then". Then I called back at 9 and it was the same guy doing customer service! LOL

LOL yeah that's what I was thinking! Like he does something else and he happened to be the one who answered the phone. That is the vibe I got from him.

Those are some professional looking parts. Not some knockoff, nonprecision BS. Man, those look sweet. Handle them with care.

I weighed the flywheel. It does indeed weigh only 9 lbs. Should be fun!

Looks good. I installed a 12lbs fly on my prelude and there was no difference in how the car got up hills, etc. it drove exactly like stock except the car was faster! :-) Made me wish I had gone for a 9 lbs. I think you will like that fly very much.

As for the timing marks you just get 2 long bolts and nuts and bolt the stock and lightweight fly together (making sure the dowel holes are lined up to each other) then get a tiny file and scratch new timing marks on the lightweight fly to match the stocker. If you want to get real fancy you can bust out the paint brush and colour in the new grooves you just made. :-)

how much was the flywheel?....i just check and it said 275? i dont want to go that low....thats why i was thinking of getting a machine shop to like shave 3-5 pounds off the stock one.

2ndGenGuy

Yeah it was somewhere around $275.

And great idea MustardCat. I didn't think of bolting them together...

Hey john, you should see if you can get a timing tape, or maybe even make on and print it off and stick it to your flywheel. It'll give you more timing options than the 2 or 3 marks on the factory flywheel.
