Hey I got a 88 accord LXI. With the 2.0 fuel injection 5 spd. I really want to put a dual over head cam in this car. I have been reading some on here about the B20A1. Seems like the hp is different everywhere I go on that motor. Some places say 137 and others say 160. How much is it? I dont want to do alot of mods to the swap. Back in 2002 I was told I could actually use my old tranny and the factory ecu. All I would have to do is swap out the intake manifold and the tranny should bolt right up. I also have heard the B20A1 was never in the USA. It only came out stock in Japan for the 86-89 accords. If anyone can clear this stuff up for me it would be great. If neone knows where I can find a engine please let me know. What other engines are good for this car?

its a hard engine to find since most of the cars just get junked now days. you would need the engine/trans/rear tranny mount/ and some assesories if you want to keep like AC and stuff...over all...it would be worth it but they are rare and if something goes wrong you just invested in the wrong thing. the A20 engines can make power too if you rebuild it.

there, i fixed your picture for you. and there aren't two power numbers for the b20a1. you're confused between b20a and b20a1. the b20a was the jdm engine, it is reported at 160 hp (though there's been discussion lately...). the b20a1 was the b20a for the european market. it has a few minor changes in cam profiles and ecu maps and is reported at 137 hp. there was also another one, the b20a8, for the european market. i think the specs are similar to b20a1, but i don't remember them for sure. and it depends on where you are, but if you're in america and have to get one shipped to you anyway, might as well go for a genuine b20a. makes more power. contact carotman, he says he knows one of the import shops in his area has several sitting around. the only downside is that they're all auto, so you'd have to either do the 5-speed to auto conversion :wtf: or try to find an accord b18a bellhousing to be able to use your accord 5-speed. and you don't have to swap out the intake manifold, the a20a and b20a use the same intake manifolds.

thanks snoopy thats some great info there. You just answered all the questions I had. I am in the USA. I definitly dont want to go to auto thats for sure. My A20A1 was fast before I fried the rings. Like dad always said if you want more power buy a bigger motor. I really dont care about the ac.. that just puts pull on the motor where I can gain a small amount of power. I also met someone at NOPI(www.nopi.com car show in Atlanta, GO usa) that put a 91 prelude SOHC motor in his car. I think he said it was a 91. He said the cyclinder walls where bigger and he was able to bore it over a little and use Nitorous oxcide and it was able to handle it fine. Im not sure of the block number though. He said he was able to get 200 hp out of it with out hitting the boost. I dont know if he was bs me. That would be even great cause its already here in the USA.

Im sure you know that doing anything other then the JDM B20 swap requires pretty much custom everyting from mounts to wiring and even doing the B20 swap is challange. Although anything is possible with time and money what are you really looking for? Are you looking to get the most power out of your accord for the most reasonable price or are you looking to have a swapped motor? If your looking for power then just go the turbo route, there arent too many people who have it done so it will still pretty unique and its probably cheaper to go turbo and you will probably get better HP gains for the amount of money you spend. If your looking to get 200HP you can definatly do that plus some with a turbo. I have done a full motor rebuild with B18 intake manifold, ARP head studs, Clutchnet clutch kit, all of the fuel delivery and electronic upgrades needed, plus all the turbo parts for under $3000. Heres the link to my turbo build so you can have idea of what parts you need and prices, its not done yet but its pretty close. http://www.3geez.com/forum/showthread.php?p=768089#post768089

My main thing right now is I fried my number 4 piston ring. So I have to rebuild this motor over. I know you these motors can run.. especially if they are built right. Little dude you have to tell me where you got those headers from.. they are freakin awesome. Parts for these cars I have a extremely hard time finding parts for. My exhaust is a fake cat and a muffler. With the 2.25 pipe ran all the way back. The headers I got kinda are hurting me. Pacesetters dont look that much different that what I already have. If you honestly think I can build this A20A3 and it have alot of power that maybe my route. My chances of finding this motor are going to be slim to none. I have only seen a B18A1 engine for sale once.. and I was stupid not to buy it. It sold on ebay with the tranny for $550 plus $150 shipping. I had no clue what that was back then. Whatever I do go with Im going to rebuild it no matter what. I just dont want to put my money into something Im not gonna be happy with in the end. I think I have alot more researching to do before I make my decision of what to go with. So I will just take all of yalls knowledge of your past experiences and use that to beaf my accord up.

The header i have is a S&S. If you have to rebuild your motor you should just build it for turbo, it wont cost that much more then a stock rebuild. I had justin make me a manifold and downpipe for $500, the ARP studs were $108 and the rest of the stuff the prices vary. I got the BTM off of ebay for pretty cheap $178 and the SAFC from a member here for $100. You just need to do some searching on ebay and other forums for the parts and you can get them fairly cheap. I think you should look into the turbo build, you can make decent power at a fairly cheap price. Just look through the forced induction section.
