Ok I have this maplight.. but the internals for the light are taller than the side of the light. Anybody else have this light and/or know how this installation was done? cutting into the headliner isn't something i'd really like to do :nervous:

Hey thats my car!! You have to cut the headliner. If you look close at the headliner you will see a little fade mark. Ill go out and take a pic real fast.

Well i have my headliner off at the monent. Take your mirror off and hold the metal bracket up to where it mounts at and trace around it with a pencil. Its kind of like a wide U shape. The bracket has to sit up in the headliner. Heres some pics of how it mounts.
Metal bracket that mounts to mirror.

Two screws go through the light and into the bracket.

Then the cover clips on over the lights.

so you need to cut room for the bracket and the whole center light assembly part? can you take a pic of the hole you cut in the headliner?

hmm i kinda wish i had asked these questions before i bought the maplight lol

You only need to cut the wide U shape for the bracket in the first pic and when you install the light(Pic 2) it will cover up the hole so you cant see it.

also, where did you end up running the wire from? I was thinking about maybe trying to tap the dome light wire. course that would mean pulling a lot of the headliner off. i guess the other option is run something from the dash up one of the pillars.

I ran it from the visor light. I didnt want it to go on when it was light out so i hooked it up to the light that only goes on when the lights are on.

Sooo... this is the 88-89 map light?

This means I have the 86-87 here (without a bracket).

Damn, I want a blue/gray 88-89 then.
