This may be a dumb question but can any type of cold air intake go in our cars?

Most should work, if not you can modify them. My intake isn't cold air, but it was modified to fit.

A few people have made theirs with the help of the how-to of of Club Del Sol I believe, but HondaSi88 that a 93 teg Cold air will fit with battery in place...

Whats the difference between a cold air intake and a non-cold air intake? i know that one is smaller, but does it affect the performance?

difference is that with a cold air intake you are pulling air from the wheel well....with the others you are pulling the hot air from under the hood. colder air = better performance

I bought one of ebay that i sold already! It came from a 90-93 teg I had to cut and switch some things around for it to work!
But the battery was still in the same place!
Plus that intake suckkkked AIR hard! THe filter was really big on the unit!

cold air intakes run down near the fender and front of the car close to the bottom and it suckes colder air regular high flow intakes sit next to the engine and start to suck warm engine air so less power and then theres stock i believe its only couple of horse difference between cold air or ill get my custom ram air set up still desideing and just an intake im putting cold air on my car in next couple weeks but right now i just have ractive heat shield filter on my intake

Yeah you should get a bigger filter... the monstor K&N one I bought looked way bigger then I needed but it simply sucked more air in a lot better then the smaller one i had on before.

Yea I love my monster K&N as for headder DC sports was the thing but they do not really make them any more. So go with pacesetter ceramic. I have their black painted ones and I love them. www.nopi.com

doesn't look like that one will work man....you need to make sure that it has a longer straight pipe. Maybe around 1.5 to 2 feet or so. You could even pop your hood and get the rough measurements.

05-16-2002, 05:15 PM
Thanz for the input dude!! I will get a rough measurement...I would like to get an intake that goes all the way around.. :pimp:

now that one is quite a bit closer....don't know if the angled part would work though, I think it may be a little bit too angled but I am not sure.

All I did was put a cone filter on the end of the hard plastic intake pipe to make it a short ram intake. I guess it sounds ok, but I wish it was deeper. Also, Ill be painting my taillights within the next few days. Any of you guys tried this out? My friend has a 92 EX 2 door and I know they dont make altezzas or clears for the 2 doors, so he took some Krylon Candy Red stained glass window spray and painted them red/white. They look pretty damn good!

weapon r is not a cold air and it s not good if you want to buy a intake buy an 92 civic aem intake. They are much better just cut about 4 inches off thefilter end with a hack saw it will fit.

yea that is it and if you position it just right the pipe that goes into the firewall from your orgional intake system will blow right on it.

One Question..How is that Cold Air???
Please Explain

will airintake fit in my 86?

1988starter
05-22-2002, 04:08 PM
it's not cold air but it does breath well their is nothing below it really except the half shaft. If you want cold air I think a 93 teg one works but I am very happy with the short ram.

05-22-2002, 09:09 PM
I made mine cold air by cutting off the front of the airbox that is in the fender well. If you cut the front off it, the scoops in the bumper direct air into the airbox and into the engine compartment right behind the battery. and that is where the intake is. At speed i dont think there is any difference between the air in the fender well and the air behind the battery with this setup. It works for me and i don't have to worry about hydro-lock!

what kind of cold or ram air will fit right up to the intake and not have to mod anything but the sensor holes

You guys are so lucky. I used what was under the hood on my carbed 86 to make a "short ram" i guess. I bought a cone filter and cut the plastic pipe that goes from the air box on the carb to the fenderwell and attached to filter to that. My origional air box is now just empty with the origional plastic filter clip removed. Its not cold air, but i definatly felt the difference. It is the easiest way to go for us carbed guys without a lot of fabrication. I will try to get some pictures.

Just a quick question, I'm going to be making a CAI for my 87 LX-i. As far as I can see, i only see three vacuum hoses on the original piping and i just wanted to know if these are the only hoses I'm going to have to re-connect when I put in the new CAI. Also I saw a few cables or hoses on the side of where the original filter box is on the right side of the engine, do i do anything with these.

Just wanted to say I'm new to the board and thanks to all the people who post to make the mods on your car so much easier.

For pics of my car almittleman.tripod.com

Jezz I bought it off him and I never got around to installing it and since my car is not repairable I guess I'll be selling it myself;) Gee and I'll be getting a teg to replace my car go figure:rolleyes:

I think it may be illegal to have them a different color, although my reverse lights are hardly ever on. From what I've noticed while backing up, people are more aware of them, than when they were clear. I had red front turn signals for a while also, but no cop ever stopped me, so I'm not to worried about the reverse lights.

i have thought of just making a ram air intake.. its as simple as getting two dryer hoses and attaching them to your original intake.. it boosts your Hp out the roof...

I was thinking of buying the civic intake system that Auto Zone sells, 4 like $40.00 and just slapping on a K&N filter... has n e 1 tried it b4, and is it great on performance?

Is NOPI.com the best/cheapest place to buy the 92 Civic intake to modify to fit an 89 accord lx-i??? or is there a better site???

Also has anyone heard about the "herbinator"???

my friend back in school had an 89 nissan sentra he did the dryer thing

he got two 6 inch dryer pipes and conneted them up to original air intake...he then got some pantyhose (not sure if it was his ;> )
and placed it on the ground end... and some chicken mesh to stop the stones being sucked in then he put it where the std spotlight holes were and had dual ram air intakes in his car

it didnt give huge power but he got a little bit more...probably as much as you could on a 1.4 :)
