I figured that's what it really was. We have emmsions and I actually just renewed my tags today. I was thinking that I get the pipe and whenever I get my emissions checked I just put the cat back on.

How much hp might a full manifold and back system get?

How much hp might a full manifold and back system get?

Nothing crazy. All by itself maybe like, 5-10 horsepower if you're lucky. With head work, a cam, intake, and all that jazz most 4 cylinders will realistically make more, depending on the aggressiveness of the other modifications to go along with it.

i have a full new exhuast with a new 2.25 inch magnaflow cat. i felt that the engine likes to breath after 5000 RPM.....it also sounds nice....a bit rice for me but after the cat is nice and warm it quiets down.

Yeah you'll notice a bit up high, and the sound of a good exhaust doesn't hurt either.

Thanks that helped me sort a few things out.

What I gather from reading the exhaust articles is that I don't want the piping to be too small nor too large and that the high flow cat is a great improvement over stock, but just a little more restrictive than a test pipe.
When I eventually get a full exhaust system done I'll go with 2.25'' piping (I'm planning on making over 160hp in the years to come so this is planning ahead) and getting a Magnaflow cat for $56. I'm assuming that this cat will allow me to pass emissions right?

Bear in mind the stock WRX cat is going to be designed to have high flow from the factory. This isn't at all uncommon on performance cars. We're replacing cats from late 80s economy cars.

I agree with Bitesize on the fact that the honda hubcaps, are not very attractive. If you are on a budget, and looking for a better-looking cheap alternative, if you like the look you can just remove the hubcaps, and give the stock wheels a nice coat of black paint. All you have to do is clean up your wheels real good, get about 2 cans of duplicolor black paint, take your wheels off, and paint them. It will also give you an excuse to rotate your tires while your at it. :) Here is what the black steelies painted looks like, I used to run my car that way.

I'll consider it some more. It looks really different on your car than it does on mine. The last time that I had the caps off I wasn't able to get a lot of rust off of the wheels so I think that killed the look. It might try gloss black paint sometime in a couple of weeks. What did you use to clean the wheels? I tried brake cleaner, but there was still quite a bit left on there.

Thats ok. Mine still had some junk on them I couldn't get off, but I wasn't planning on keeping those wheels on for more than a year. If you plan to switch wheels in the future, it doesn't really matter that these turn out perfect. Just paint over the stuff you can't get off. If you can't get it off yourself, it probably wont just fall off and cause chips in the paint. If its stuck on, its stuck on, so if you only plan on using the wheels for a year or so, go for it. :) They don't have to be perfect, they are steelies.
