View Full Version : Pulsing battery light...

I'm going to take a WILD stab in the dark here and say that my alternator just went tits up. The light stays on at idle, then pulses on and off faster with the RPMS.

Also, my battery has been swelling and leaking acid. I'm guessing that the alternator has been overcharging my battery for the last couple months due to a bad voltage regulator, and now it's starting to die completely.

Pisses me off, because that alternator is less than a year old, what I get for buying remanufactured crap at AutoZone. Could there be any other things to check? Bad grounds maybe?

Do these cars have an external voltage regulator?

I'm pretty sure it's built onto the alternator. Which is why I'd likely have to replace the whole thing.

if it's in the alternator, you can swap the regulator with a used unit.

I replaced it. Took it back to the store and it was still under warranty. The price went up $25 from when I originally bought it 18 months ago. Thank god it was under warranty. Free is a great price. Picked up a new, not-leaky battery too. All fixed. :)
