Here is my $30.00 Project car. 1989 Accord DX. Had a seized motor. I am starting the tear down right now. Building a whole new engine for it.

Should have saved your money.

Just kidding! I like DXs, too. They're already stripped so you don't have to do it.

$30 for a car = good deal. Welcome to 3geez. It sucks that the engine is seized, but it will be fun to rebuild an engine. You came to the perfect spot for that

Thanks for the welcomes to the group. Here is the short and dirty on the car. Never been wrecked, Only rust is the lower rocker on the drivers side from sitting parked outside for 3 years. Left front coil spring is broke. Interior was clean. Pulled the interior to inspect fuel and brake lines under carpet. I have been considering the FI Swap. Found a few complete needs lists for the FI Swap here already. Harness, ECU, and other tid bits. My new short block is bored 20 over. Should be here next week. Have the new head sitting and waiting. I would like to do the Si rear disc swap. Hard to find all the parts right now. Pretty clean slate as it sits.

that is one of the most harder jobs to pull off....if you have the mechanical expirience i would go ahead and do it. also look at the condition of the car. i found a good deal on a fuel injected car...and at the end it was cheaper than trying to convert my old carb into fuel injected cuz there is no warranty

Progress Update. Got some more parts pulled off the car this weekend. Also wanted to share a pic of my other Honda. My Beloved 1982 Honda CBX Supersport. Only had 12K on it when Hurricane Katrina decided to take it. I looked for 3 days and never found even a piece of her. I was living in Bay Saint Louis, MS .Less than a 1/4 mile from the beach. The storage garage I had it in was wiped to the slab.

Thanks. I do want this to be a Build diary of sorts. Have Digi Camera. Why not post it up. I want to do the car up right. I think it is clean enough to do a restoration to. I am also interested in designing alot of replacement parts for our 3G's. Looking into making a complete rear disc kit. so we don't have to scavenge for SEi donors. I have 20 years CAD experience and CNC at my disposal, so why not do it. Look forward to your thoughts and comments.

Nemisis
06-05-2007, 10:58 PM
I don't know where my Carb setup will take me. I bought this car for $30 not running, so we will see how it goes when I finish the new motor build. I kinda want to stay carbed, but the FI is appealing for many other reasons.

looks good man that's awesome that you have a CAD machine at your disposal you can make anything. i'm sure i wouldn't be the only one that would be buying a rear disc kit if you made ones up to sell so that's definitely a good idea on that. good luck with everything man.

My thread has turned into a two fold project. As I read the posts here, I see there is a need for, or lack of trick functional components for the 3G. As I rebuild my 89, I am documenting and putting in all the dimensions of parts into CAD. Once my engine build is done and installed, I want to move to the suspension, and the rear Disc swap. That is when I will see if it is feasible to fabricate and machine those parts for the rear suspension. The other "Bling" parts, I can do all day, Trick Aluminum motor mounts, Strut bars, and various other brackets. Those are more cosmetic, with exception to the strut bars. Could have some fun with designs there for sure. I look forward to the input and suggestions for parts that we wont be able to find that I could reproduce.

you use inventor at all?

i am trained in inventor and auto cad my self have played with cadcam but yeah not enuff to do anything and since i don't have 5 grand for software and don't use windows i am kinda screwed :(

we need a full 3d model of a 4dr 2dr and hatch 3gee.. and since cars are just sheet metal spot welded together it could be all done in inventor as seperat parts....... and asembled image an exploded 3d model of a 3gee drools

sujestion to stop the rust from geting worse pull your rear bumper off and inspect it and get a cuple cans of zink oxide primer!!! and spray thoughs areas till you can take care of them

Nemisis
06-12-2007, 07:11 PM
I use Rhino CAD Nurbus modeling software. Also have full version of Bob CAD CAM also. Both way better than Auto CAD for me anyways. Been using Rhino for 7 years. To recreate the entire Accord could be cool. I was more focused on more practical design of parts for our rides. I want to do an aftermarket kit, if you will, of a complete rear Disc brake setup for the non SEi's. Saving having to find a SEi donor at the salvage yard. Also a better Y fork design for the front strut mount that will let you pass the Axle and CV Joint thru it.
