Need help cleaning the uunderside of my hood

The unnderside of my hood is extremely dirty from all the years of not being cleaned ever....and I was just wondering if there were any secrets as to how to clean it, and is it possible to get it sparkly clean so it at least somewhat matches the rest of the car?

I am thinking maybe some polishing compound and quite a bit of effort!

Its a pain. Take a power washer at the car wash to get the big stuff of. Its hard to hold your arm underneath the hood for a very long time before it gets cramped.
