Got it. Those are some crazy lookin engines though. I wonder if they would live up to todays emissions standards?

I wonder how low the emissions would be if you added a cat. I'm sure they're exempt in Georgia though.

It's not a Civic! It's an Accord! Buy it! You want to, so do it!

Looks like a 78 or 79.

And it probably does have a cat. I'm pretty sure all the Accords had them, and only the realy early Civics got away without having them. I think that cats were mandatory after a certain year, regardless of emissions.

According to a Honda dealer they didn't have Cats:

Hmm, maybe the earlier ones didn't. My 1g definitely has a cat though. Even says "CATALYST" on the door. :D

I think that it is a 77 or 78, the grill looks wrong for a 79. It probably does not have a cat, at least my 77 didn't have one. Although I am not sure what year the accords first got a cat. Oh and they burned regular leaded gas too.

So suppose you ran a leaded car on unleaded gas... don't the valves need the leaded gas for lubrication or something? Can that cause premature valvetrain failure?

Yup. See this link for more than you ever wanted to know about gasoline.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gasoline
Although I have held a valid drivers license continuously since the early 70s, I don't recall the transition from leaded to unleaded gas having as dire an impact on our engines as was initially predicted. We probably just wore the engines out and whatever damage the unleaded gas did was minor, relative to other engine wear.
