actually the auto may be a keeper...maybe. My dad rebuilds power transmissions (for like cranes and bulldozers and stuff) and i may have him take a wack at mine. Performance torque convertor FTW! After that, ive been doing some research on paddle shifters, and they can be done without having an electronically controlled auto trans, but its way more difficult. Not turbo, maybe super, but for now the plans are hardcore NA build, OBD-1

i would add an aftermarket cooler to it....its real easy....i helped tommy set his up and it took us less than 3 hours to do. he also filled it with B&M trick shift...and the tranny rode smooth

2drSE-i

that i should definately do. Even if i do decide to do a 5 sp swap in the future, a trans cooler would be a smart idea, cuz these things run HOTTT

You'd have to have an oil pump added for a manual transmission oil cooler.

As for the auto trans cooler, keep the stock one in place. Install the aftermarket cooler in the return line between the stock cooler and the transmission. The stock cooler regulates operating temps in cold areas, and will precool your hot fluid. Something I learned from working on third gen Camaros.

Update: thought it was about time to start posting about some of the work i was doing. I moved out of my parents house in September and im paying for all of my own school, books, etc so i dont really have much money for any real mods, but ive been doing some inexpensive things, i may show some later on. This is my primary project as of right now, UV Gauges!

For now, ive just got the blacklight rigged up. I bought a 5Spd LX-i coupe gauge cluster (so it would match my gauge cluster, who knew there were 60 differnet kinds of gauge clusters....

I bought this to start with
http://www.geeks.com/imageshare/2/150x150/22413-soft.gif
Its an 8" Compact blacklight (thank you guaynabo for the suggestion) 12v DC with cigarette adapter. The cig adapter im using for while im working on it before i install it into my car.

Ill go ahead and apologize for the shittastic pics...3megapixels my asshole motorolla... anyway as you can see the damn thing dont fit...:-(
http://lh6.google.com/Hanson405/R4-6EhKgiXI/AAAAAAAAAS4/mPUJRHQZjHE/s400/080117_131952.jpg
LEROY JEEEENKINS! haha anyway....a dremlin i go

before....
http://lh5.google.com/Hanson405/R4-6HRKgicI/AAAAAAAAATg/UJuQ9e-S_zE/s400/080117_134342.jpg
after...and this pic is especially bad. i basically made it into a > because the edges of the light holder are sloped.
http://lh5.google.com/Hanson405/R4-6JRKgifI/AAAAAAAAAT4/YbMjn4Nvk4o/s400/080117_134515.jpg
Dont know what happened with this pic, but trust me i have tiny, skinny ass arms. This is the blacklight installed into the OEM light holder.
http://lh5.google.com/Hanson405/R4-6KRKgihI/AAAAAAAAAUI/yZUI3uffHKQ/s400/080117_134546.jpg
This is how it looks lit up....looks great, this will light up the UV paint very well.
http://lh5.google.com/Hanson405/R4-6LRKgijI/AAAAAAAAAUY/eZJsMLbXgyc/s400/080117_134709.jpg
And with gauges installed. now these are unpainted, and i dont really want to reveal my plans, but it will look badass.

Oh and before anyone says anything, i live with my girlfriend, and bath and body works kicks ass haha

Alright little update. Havent made much progress with the blacklight, but i spent 6 bucks on some 12v dc LEDs. Got them plugged into the gauge cluster, going outside to try them out here in a few mins. Got some pics.

and, if you follow the foundation threads you would know that im working on becoming a police officer (about a semester and a half out actually) and i have a class that required me to buy a bunch of equipment. This is my 130 dollar flashlight....bright as fuck!!

ok im back inside...its actually pretty damn hot out there. I had all of them wired right except two haha (i dont have a way to check the polarity...) but i lucked out....now i just gotta sand the LEDs down so they actually light something up.

Gauge project COMPLETE!.....almost damnit

Other than some Flourescent paint (which is en route) for my needles, my gauge project is completed. Some pics for my good friends at 3geez? oh yes!

LED's all installed and sanded down......sweet!
http://lh4.google.com/Hanson405/R6nQ0pCQL-I/AAAAAAAAAXI/OfuCurXdbKE/s400/080206_090403.jpg

http://lh5.google.com/Hanson405/R6nQ25CQMBI/AAAAAAAAAXg/_wY1nPuxfRw/s400/080206_091816.jpg

i know that at this angle, you can see the blacklight, looks stupid. At the angle at which the gauges are actually installed, you cant see it at all.

Comments welcome, even negative ones. I may just ignore them though. :-)

no, its meant for automotive use and it says its heat regulated...the only thing its really close to to the gauge surround.

Thanks for all the positive comments guys. As for paint messy, its just fluorescent model car paint. Im using spray but you can use body paint, or other stuf too really.

On a side note, there are about 3000000 different gauge clusters for these cars. FI, Carb, Sedan, Coupe/Hatch....i pulled my new gauge cluster out of a FI Sedan....damn warning lights dont work the same (wired differently...) So i have to take the warning light circuit board off of my current cluster and swap it to my new cluster.....and i hooked it up yesterday and the fuel gauge didnt move and the water heat gauge went straight up to hot... anyone have any insight on this?

http://lh4.google.com/Hanson405/R7zeQVPe02I/AAAAAAAAAYw/rSbqIu_ltCU/s400/080220_200246.jpg

They are really much (MUCH) brighter in person, and the light is spread out a lot better.
This gauge project was built to match some instrumentation that i will be purchasing in the future.

The blacklight works great! i think i would just have to sand down the leds to nothing for them to disperse any light, or use the stock diffuser, which is green.

or make a new one out of blue plexi i do have the dispersal prob but its fixable and the uv leds arent as purple on the dash they really only illuminate the white uv needles i have now

its not visible at all, at the angle you look at it from. I didn't really plan on that i just lucked out, because it would be really tacky if you could see it.
