Anyone know how to remove a dizzy and thermostat housing on a 89 DX carbed, im trying to buy those 2 from vanilla soon and i wanna know how to remove it myself to save me time and money. If there is a how to then please link me cause i didnt find one. It seems to just remove some bolts and a few wires.

Can anyone at least tell me if im right about it being just a few bolts and stuff? Also would i have to re-time my timing belt if i change my dizzy?

2 or 3 bolts for the dizzy, I believe two in your case. Two for the thermostat housing. I don't know for you, but on FI models the EGR tube needs to be removed to get at one of the housing bolts, and it is quite a bitch.

The timing belt is not affected at all. You will need a timing light to set base timing when you install the new dizzy.

With the distributor installed and the bolts slightly loosened, you can rotate it back and forth, changing the timing.
Connect the timing light power leads to the battery and the pickup to the #1 plug wire.
Remove the timing plug. It is located right where the engine meets the transmission, next to the A20A1 or A20A3 name plate.
Start the engine and point the light at the timing hole. Rotate the distributor to reach 15 BTDC. Tighten your bolts and recheck.
You can buy a timing light at any auto parts store or rent one, they are not very expensive.

Ok you still have the EGR pipe. I have a carb too and when i removed the thermostat housing i had to move the pipe out of the way to get the lower nut.

Do you have to be 18 to rent it from an auto parts store?

AS far as i know you just need a valid license and phone number so they know who you are. And when you rent you pay the price of it, so if you do steal it they won't cry over it you paid.

With a lot of those places you basically buy it and when you return they refund some of your money.

You don't need to remove the EGR just find a small wrench and make small turns. though I think I did bend the pipe a little to get clearance when I removed my T stat. It can bend alright, just don't over do it.
