I didn't really find anything with the search thing..

I was looking at getting some 16" by 7" wide rims with 205/40 tires. Does anyone know if there will be rubbing with the car dropped 2 1/2" in the front & 2" in the rear? I'm worried if the tires are going to rub anywhere.

The rims have the 40 mm offset.

Thanks, dd

I have not seen that done on a 3rd gen., they sound like a wild profile. but then there is whole lot I aint seen lol
the offset may be a concern with a 205/40. you wont know til you try possibly

I was thinking 205/50's might work, still not so sure though.

I ran a 205/40 on a 16x7.5 +35 or 38, and the rear fenders rubbed a tiny bit. A higher offset would have helped so I wouldn't anticipate rubbing issues. At worse you might need to roll the fenders a tiny bit.

I don't understand how a 205/40/16 is a 'wild profile'?

 generation gap?
I guess it is not <wild> by todays standards by no means.
I could have just mispelled w i d e:)
A collegue put 155/40/18 on his SC grand prix and in less than an hour bent a wheel. He was used to drivig lowriders too, so i guess it didnt take much.
I may have the 155 part sightly off but its close.
If you can get a set up like that at a deal that is cool, you are upgrading your sports car. Just like adding louder exhaust, you want to flex that muscle just because the car constantly reminds you it is there. Same woudl go with extreme suspension mods and inpractical wheel and tire sizes. You have to admit the more you make cars cling to the earth the more you take away from the DD flexability, it is a sacrifice. Just telling it like it is, and yes Im guilty, im running 195/50/15 on the front and yes it feels like im rolling on bare rims sometimes, and I have to anticipate :angle of approach: constantly...then again I push into on ramps to the interstate twice as fast as I would before..its a sacrifice yes

Hahaha fair enough.

40 series definitely isn't known for its ride quality, unless it's like 255/40 so you have a meaty sidewall :)

The back will be fine. The front might rub though. Im running 205/40/17's with a 2.25 inch drop all around and it doesn't rub at all.

That was what I worried about. I'll just get some 15's at 6.5" width wrapped with 205/50's. Can't be taking a chance with the front so far lowered. Might snap some pics when I get them.

Appreciate all the replies & generation gaps. :)

yaw take into consideration any difference between hatchbacks, sedans and coupes,Front should be about the same but the back could be a blonde puddy hair different

The rims I was originally going to get, got discontinued & sold out. So I had to get the next cheapest rim I could afford, so I picked these. Watcha think?

I like those, I want some
I just dont like the ones similar that the spoke protrude outside the rim so much that they hit things.

I went to do the deal & seen a better deal. These are the rims I was going to get but in chrome, but can't beat the price now. Rims & tires for little over 5 bills, not bad if you say. Off to buy before I change my mind.

I like the other rims myself, but I can use an extra $75 on other things for my house. (if you know what I mean, trying to fix it up & all)
Plus, I'm just happy that I can get rid of the steelies. Anything is better than them.

I'll sleep on it tonight. I haven't got an email yet confirming my purchase. They might be sold out of them (my luck again). I'll call them in the morning & see what is up, if their out of stock I'll pony up the cash for the other set. :)

hey if those are alloys with chrome be sure to look each rim over super good for any flaws what so ever. Those plated rims are discounted severely sometimes and then resold for retail.
Unless of course they are just polished, then I would not understand why they are less money.
The shiny look would go with your maroon car but not all colors, IMO
how long have you been shopping for rims/tires? that price was pretty good for 16s

My order didn't go through cause I was using my back button too much. I called them & got the exposed lug rims. They are 15's, not 16's. I would have trouble with 16's hittin the fender dropped low. I'll get some pics next weekend with them on the car.

the rim size doesnt matter since you have to get lower profile tires for them...the offset is that determines if its going to rub or not....38-45 offset should be ok with our cars.

15 is just fine, they are going to look good..and tires should be more reasonable ..locating and paying for them..

Messy- I chose 15's cause I was really worried about 16's being to wide at 7 inches. I'm just not taking a chance cause my car is faily low to the ground.

roodo2- I got a tire & wheel package. It looks my first order went through & they took close to 5 bills out my bank account. Got to call them in the morning at straighten that out. I was doing an oil change on my car tonight, & found out I need to get BOTH rear upper control arms & one upper ball joint. (on my lude arms). Never ending maintenance.

oh....7 inches are kinda wide for 16 inch...my 15 inch are only 6 inches wide i think.

Thanks Roger. I'm glad I took your advice on which ones to get, cheaper is not allways better in the long run. I plan on putting them on today, as soon as my wife gets home. Her damn car is in the way to transport them in my truck. She's gone with her dad to look at a cat. I don't think I feel like fighting 2 rims in the trunk & 2 in the back seat,or messing around with a jack. Plus, I like to use a torque wrench. (all at work & I have shop keys)

I might snap some good pics this weekend. My wife thinks the car looks totally different now. Personally, I impressed the way it looks. See people looking over checking my car out driving down the road. Sure beats the hell out of stock steelies. Now I need to finish up some other issues with it.
