Been itching to get another 3G for awhile, surfing eBay, craigslist, autotrader and cars.com. Saw one come up on Craigslist for $600. Pics looked a tad sketchy but I kept my fingers crossed and went to look at it. When I got there it was pretty rough but I figured I'd take it. I had already shelled out $75 for a tow dolly and drove 165 miles so I really didn't want to go home empty handed hehe. Negotiated and settled on $300. Here it is:

It is riddled with dents/dings, rust around the wheels and mirrors, alot of the black mouldings are falling apart and I'm missing a trim piece, door handle is missing, radio doesn't turn on, various interior panels are ripped up and the car is generally filthy. Has a dead alternator, bad brakes, needs alignment, one very bald tire and it has the up/down/up/down idle problem. Has some sort of noisy muffler too.
Wasn't really wanting to get into a 3G with so much attention needed, but I figured worst case scenario I'm sure I can probably move it for $400 to get back at least what I have invested between car+dolly+fuel to get it. I'm gonna try to stick it out though so I can at least save one tired ass hatch, heh, but I just sold my 740i next to it on eBay today so I may take the funds and pick up a much more mint 3G hatch instead. I guess time will tell!

Yea, heh, just getting it presentable and stock is going to be some work but it'll be fun. I was seduced by 4Gs for awhile which is why I haven't had a 3 for some time. While I like the more modern feel of the 4G and the fact that H22s swap in much easier I still love the hatchback look more so I decided to go that route. I'm supposed to be meeting a guy on Saturday to buy the 7, hopefully he doesn't flake out because that will definitely fast track getting the Accord roadworthy heh.

My friend couldn't believe his ears when I told him I'm ditching a 300hp BMW 740 on 20s in lieu of a twenty year old 110hp Honda on 14s lol.

Good project car. Don't worry after you get all the problems resolved you will enjoy driving it. How many miles does it have? Good thing you don't have the autotragic.

I wasn't even considering autos. If I had, prolly would've had a 3G sooner hehe. My last hatch was manual too. With only 110 hp on tap I can't imagine dealing with an auto. -shudder- My memories of driving the old hatch were that it wasn't all that fast, but it had 'spirited' response and was still fun to drive.

Definitely gonna miss my baby.. but I'm not one of the stereotypical rich bimmer owners, hehe, so I finally decided to draw the line in the sand and cut my losses. I've spent about four grand on service in the last year and now it needs front suspension work ($1500), a brake job ($300), the navigation system antenna is spazzing out ($??), HVAC blower stopped working ($950) and the catalytic convertors are shot. When I called the dealer about the dead cats, he said the cats are $1600.... EACH. Actually I found I can use aftermarket Magnaflows @ $65/ea instead thank God heh.

So anyway.. decided it's time to move on. Insurance will drop $105/mo when I drop the car, fuel savings will be about $150/mo as well. But I will miss that big lip (http://www.nischan.com/crap/wheellip.jpg) hehe.
