Go with some brighter headlights first. Silverstar sealed beams are a great upgrade and you can get them for 20 a side, if you look around.

are they H4 or would i have to change the hole headlight?

the sealed beam aren't h4 but the price is about the same as an h4 bulb and the installation is identical. you can get them at most any car store like autozone or kragen for $20 each. you can also get autopal h4 conversions with generic h4 bulbs for about $40/pair here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/200mm-H4-EURO-STYLE-HEADLIGHTS-KIT-JEEP-CHEROKEE-79-01_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33710QQihZ014QQitemZ 330007065639QQrdZ1

i have the sealed bean silverstars and they work pretty well imo. no problems seeing at night.

Yes, you will need to change the whole assembly. If you get the sealed beams for $20-$25 so each, they come with reflectors. The bulbs are like the stock ones. Instead of replacing just the bulbs, you replace the whole unit. If you go with the H4 housings, you can replace the bulbs separately. Depending on which bulbs you go with, they will be brighter, but the initial setup will be more.

The Silverstar sealed beams will last much longer than the individual Silverstar bulb. I have had mine for more than three years. The other advantage to the sealed beam Silverstars is that they have a killer beam pattern. I love these lights.
