Ditto for me, minus the keys :)

I like the Sparco Bio:

..but I wanna feel one in person before plunking down $75 on it heh. Not that it keeps inline with the topic, but on a similar token as far as pedals I want the Razo RP54 (http://www.andysautosport.com/images/product/interior/pedals/sm__rp_54.gif)s.

Pardon the mess, I am still working on the car.

The boot is the Audi euro boot that everyone goes ga-ga over for some reason. The shift knob is a custom piece lathed at my shop out of 303 stainless steel. Drilled and threaded for the shifter. No hex nut crap to deal with.

I'll take a pic of mine tomorrrrow if i can, remeber mine was off one of the honda prototypes that they tested till they broke running the hell out of them on Ohio roads. that was while the marysville plant was being built. they used to do secret torture tests up there because the roads were so bad. all i'll say is i had a relative that was working with the project at the time and one of them "disappeared". no comments other then that. i will never part with that knob. ever.

Man, sabz that's a really nice looking piece of steel you have! Does it have some nice weight to it? It reminds me of those weighted Skunk2 shift knobs. The extra weight really makes the shifting feel smooth.

How many people can say they made their own shift knob. That's badass!

I have a 3g shift knob in my car:

off topic, but does anyone know how to make a spin turn knob for the e-brake... or maybe just one that would be compatible with the 3g e-brake? i may have found one, but I'm not sure.

i made the push button on mine from aluminum,it's a lot longer then it looks, all you see is the end of the button,i can't remember what the thread was off the top of my head.i 've considered making the end piece too,but i don't have an extra e brake handle handy at the moment, then i would need to make a boot to attach to it.

This is a cheapo knob I got from autozone. It's the most comfortable shifter I've ever used.
The flash makes it look carbon fiber but it's not. Gotta be nylon or something from the feel of it.
I think its made by 3M, 3G, 3R? something like that for about $20.

does it have a twist end so it will release the ebrake lock and the ebrake will not ratchet or lock in place?

does it have a twist end so it will release the ebrake lock and the ebrake will not ratchet or lock in place?na i replaced the plastic button with one made from aluminum, because the plastic ones are always flaking. the button goes way down in there. i was talking about making an aluminum round handle part to go around the knob. i don't know about the twist lock,i have an idea on how to make one though.

i have that but with the orange writeing unsted of white :) looks sportyyea i know,i sent it to you. they only came on the hatch of that generation, with matching orange graphics on the instrument cluster. very rare now. that looks a lot like my shift knob, probably came from about the same generation, except for the red and gold leaf honda insert. they might have pulled it out of a box or something building the test cars.

those momo handles are super duper expensive.

My steering wheel, shift, ebrake, pedals, door sills are all momo and added up to a pretty penny.

waiting for the buzzard one to be put up on the site, i saw them yesterday at the big car corral and swap meet here in moultrie. buzzard kicks ass. there are a couple of oddball things on that page that aren't knobs, for some reason, you drill and tap these for your particular size shifter thread,so they are universal. the vorken skull and the von road rash are pretty cool too.

Its alot smaller than stock, and like 3 times as heavy. Makes for a smooth shift. Now getting that teggie boot on was a pain in the ass. I had to cut the teg boot plate out and stich in the stock accord plate.

Just an ebay aluminum knob. I think it was $15.

The boot I bought new from honda. It's for a 2g accord. Same exact size as the 3g one except it has a ring at the top instead of the plastic clip insert.

No, I had to bust off the old stock one. I'm probably going to get an after market or NOS Honda boot with a captive ring. This one is a bit shabby and doesn't look great with the new knob. I might try to find a new Beige leather one. :dunno:

I'm really happy with the construction of this one, it has 3 set screws and a threaded sleeve at the base to conceal them, the boot doesn't do it justice.

phrenology
10-09-2010, 08:38 AM
Yeah I think I'm going to look for a new leather boot in beige and get a matching leather steering wheel wrap. :dunno:

If its not insanely expensive I'll ask the local leather shop to make me a matching set. I removed the stock leather steering wheel wrap because it was awful and peeled off in my hands while driving.

the only issue with aluminum shift knobs, is you either burn or freeze your hand, remember how hot a car interior can get in the summer, that shift knob will reach that same temp, enough to cause serious burns to your hand. I used to have one, got a goofy golf club cover to go over it.

I have the one off of one of the three g test mules, but it's really deteriorated in the last couple of years, one of my relatives worked for American Honda back in the day, and they did suspension tests in Northeast Ohio where I grew up. Best place to torture test parts. He swiped one of the knobs back around 85 I think, They would close off backroads and run the cars at full speed over ruts, potholes, washouts etc, until they broke. They didn't need to create the test track, it was already there.
