was totally trying to ignore the fact for months since i bought the '88 LX that stock steelies blow llama ass.

i finally "saw the light" when i picked up a 4-pack of 17" rims on Friday night for $340 cash. 205/40-17 were $236 shipped, $25 per tire install labor

already have one B&M Supercooler installed, will probably order a second one just outta tranny-temp paranoia with the slightly-increased wheel weight

should be installed by thursday night...

lightest 15" rim i've found in the Nor Cal area is 9 lbs rim alone. some place in Santa Cruz, a performance shop... forgot the name offhand. they'll do $1075 for 4 rims with Z-rated tires package. not sure what it looks like, but it's their lightest wheel available for our wheel configuration.

lighter=quicker. quicker go, quicker stop. my corrado VR6 is running speedline 15" wheels with 195/50 tires. f***ing fast as hell. but that's also pushin around 240hp with all the engine stuff... and that thing aint even done yet :)

i aint aiming for speed with the 88 LX. its a 18.1lb 17" rim. almost 4lbs heavier than stock.

stock steelie weight about 14lbs (unless i'm off on that weight), multiply by 4 for rotational mass = 56lbs per wheel max momentum weight

17" rims = 72.4lbs per wheel

however, i'm not sure what the tire weight is for a 185/80-13 tire versus a 205/40-17 tire. the stock tire spec may be heavier due to more sidewall rubber height in the composite? not sure.

i'll definitely lose some gas mileage, but i'll have a 4.87% smaller diameter with the 205/40-17 tires, which should help keep the acceleration not-too-shabby. the car will be a bit slower cause of the added weight without a doubt, but the diameter reduction should help counteract that effect somewhat, to balance things out...

i'm gonna weigh the 13" rim+tire vs. the 17" rim+tire and post the results later in the week
