I'm finally getting the stuff together to lower the old girl a bit! With a wife, 2 kids, 3 dogs, and 2 birds, I had to have a good excuse to spend the dough. I'll post pics of the springs when I get 'em in, and pics of the finished set up when it's done!

Here's my new excuse.

I've already received the new Tokico struts and I'm just waitin' for the H&R springs to arrive!

I've got 'lude upper control arms and new ball joints for 'em already. Should I have those installed at the same time y'all think? I may have the front forks modded, and installed as well for that little extra bit of drop.

I wish I knew so I could avoid doin' it again.

My choice of Tokico's and H&Rs is because this is my daily driver, so I dont want to go toooo low (it snows around here, and I dont think the old girl has enough torque or traction to plow my driveway) and I dont wanna bounce all over the place.

H&R / Neuspeed is the only spring choice we have that we can get struts that can even come close to controlling without spending an arm and a leg to buy / customize.

Custom valved Bilsteins are too expensive, and Koni's are rare as hens teeth.

thats cause tokicos aren't really up handling anything much stiffer than H&R, and there's not much else out there besides tokicos:violin:

unless you go with the legend master set up....but that would be overkill for most of us...

Wasn't there a manufacture called "Selex" talking about making struts (shocks) for 3gs?

I wonder what happened to all that.... did anyone ever get any of those and check 'em out?

Just checked for the thread by searching for posts made by "L3G10N". They wanted approx $150 per shock.

I just got a full set of 4 Tokico's for just under $200 with shipping.

i dont think so...the only one confirmed is the DC sturt bar and justin home made one.....other people use like civic sturt bars and just mod the brackets so they can use it on the 3gee.

I wish Justin would start makin' them strut bars again. I'd love to get a set.

Has anyone here actually tried out a 4g sway bar on the back to see if they really do fit? I'd love to get that 22mm bar they make for the 4g if they will really fit our 3gs.

its just a theory....since the vigor bars fits the 3rd gen and 4th gen so a 4th gen aftermarket one should fit with minor mods.....i singed up on cb7 forum and they said for the progressive bar you need to drill holes for the brackets.

Anybody here ever hear about replacing a "load bearing cap" when putting in new shocks/struts? This 3g is the first time I've ever owned a car with struts. I'm used to doin' plain old full size GM "A" arm type suspension work, (like early 70s firebirds, and Nova stuff) and I dont wanna screw nothin' up.

I was gonna have a friend help out, but I think he's just makin' up excuses to try to delay or get outa helping. Sorta like when we used to send dorks and little sisters to the parts store for muffler bearings, metric dykes (wire cutters), and left handed phillips screwdrivers.

According to him we're supposed to replace a metal cap at the top of the strut with a new one when putting in new struts and springs. I've never seen any mention of any kinda "load bearing cap" on the struts, it doesn't seem to be mentioned anywhere in the "How to's", and there's nothing like that in with the new Tokico shocks either.

Nothin' like that in the 3g shop manual either as far as I can tell. Everything in the manual looks pretty straight forward "replace if damaged" type stuff except the self locking nuts are all labeled "replace".

ive been trying to look for the 1.5 inch h&r's but theyre scarce as hell up here in canada.... only h&r springs they have availabe up here are the 1 inch drop springs...

ahh well.... i guess getting them shipped here from the states is probably the only option.. shipping costs suck:thumbdn:

mine came with new rubber bushings and thoes lil metal things when i got my tokicos just make sure you put them back on right. it should not take more than 3 hours to do the whole thing... and good luck...take plenty of pics...im sure you are going to love the way it handles now....even after like 5k on my set up its still nice and tight.

I ordered my H&Rs off Ebay from a "power seller" going by the name of Pili-car. They only cost me about $182 US with shipping. You can probably get some shipped to you for just a bit more than that.

You're going to like them, those are the same springs I'm running

Bones

They're on!

My old shocks looked like they had been recently replaced already. Genuine Honda parts too. No way those were the original shocks. Probably replaced by the Honda dealer I got it from just before I bought it. The other front spring was broken as well though. The springs were probably original.

Pics coming soon! Probably later tonight.

It's just the pics. Maybe because they were taken immediately after taking it off the jackstands.

So far I'm liking the new setup. It's got just a little bit of bounce in the front but I can live with that.

It's definately lower than stock, but not so low that it's immediately noticable, unless I park next to a stock 3g. It gives it an "expensive sport sedan" look instead of a "dropped in the weeds / dragging the tailpipes" ricer look I think.
