Take off old grille to make sure your new speaker is going to fit.
http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i150/baqnblaq2003/Davesworkpictures034.jpg
Now using automotive grade masking tape line out the area with tape. Make sure the tape is tight and conforms to all contours of the area.
http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i150/baqnblaq2003/Davesworkpictures035.jpg
Using a Sharpie outline the contours. This is a good time to mark your screw holes as well.
http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i150/baqnblaq2003/Davesworkpictures036.jpg
This a cheap piece of fiber board I had a couple scrap pieces laying around. It is about 3/8" thick.
http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i150/baqnblaq2003/Davesworkpictures037.jpg
Lay the out the masking tape flat as possible the board.
http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i150/baqnblaq2003/Davesworkpictures038.jpg
Now trim everything you outlined with the Sharpie. Also drill the screw holes at this time.
http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i150/baqnblaq2003/Davesworkpictures040.jpg
Remove the masking tape and sand all edges.
http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i150/baqnblaq2003/Davesworkpictures043.jpg
Rap the board with your choice of color fabric.
http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i150/baqnblaq2003/Davesworkpictures065.jpg
Make sure speaker with grille fits.
http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i150/baqnblaq2003/Davesworkpictures081.jpg
If your satisfied with your work... just install it. Then repeat for the other side.

Sorry I had to post a how-to here, but it won't let me in the how-to section.

Hope you guys find this helpful.

Nice, clean work. I think I have to leave my OEM grills in, too. If someone broke in a few years ago to steal my Aiwa CD deck they won't hesitate to break in to steal my Rockford Fosgate door speakers!

I agree. I have Infinity's front and rear, and I love the fact that no one know's it. Kudo's on the write up though.

Yeah it sucks that we live in a world were some people can't do modifications like this to their cars. It pisses me off that there is dishonest people who decide that they don't need to work hard to buy the things they want when they can just steal it. Anyways thanks for the feedback though.

Oh, yeah, that I did do. It does give it a cleaner, yet inconspicuous look.

good write-up, i'd consider it if i didn't park my car on the street at night and i had an alarm. i don't want people breaking in for my pioneers...

i kept the factory grills but wrapped the metal screen in black speaker cloth. i thought of doing this, but use the pioneer plate type two way speakers, remove the speakers from the plate, make a piece they fit in,with the tweeter angled the right way,and mount them behind a panel like this, out of site.

You can see right through them when light is directly applied to them, but in the shade, it's hard to see the speaker through the housing.

TO bad yours looks awful. Why are you spray painting everything? Plus, you can see the maroon right through the black. IE: Bad prep job. Your making your car look worse. Just stick with oem colored pieces. It will look better in the long run.
