Here is the deal. I am looking into producing led tail lights for our 3geez. I will be using super flux leds with super flux led circuit boards. These will be clean as hell. I am looking for someone to donate a set of sedan tail lights. I can help with shipping if need be. I plan on purchasing myself a new set of hatchback tail lights and begin working on them asap. I have superflux leds on the way and will begin tinkering with them as soon as they arrive. If you can help me out or want to put your input in, feel free!

Damn that would look HOT, IMO they'd look awesome on corner/parking lights.

Sorry, can't donate any :(

This is just a friendly critique, but dont you think it would look much better with a lot more (like 2X or 3X more) LEDs that are closer together?

I'll donate some 2g tails, then pay for the cost of the materials and shipping...

How much might that be?

:)

Of course, this assumes you can tell the difference between the tail lights and the brake lights... that's often the problem I have had with LED tail lights.

If water gets in your Tail light circuit boards then it's toast as well, so whats the difference?

difference is your mom!! :) I've seen cars with water in their tail and headlights, if the water gets behidn the bulb it can damage stuff.

There will be plenty of leds after I'm done with them. :)

Right now, I'm guessing the "parts" will run around $100-$150 for a full set of tail lights. For you people that want them, plan on over $200 for a full set. I've spent time looking around and pondering them. Super flux led's will provide 5x the light regular leds emit. The kit will be for finished circuit boards. You will have to mount them in your tail lights. I'll keep you guys updated.

there's like 40 leds in those squares.. and we need like 6 of them for a full sedan.

BITESIZE

There will be alot of leds, so $200 is just a guestimate too.

God these pictures don't even show how bright they really are!!! I'm super stoked now. I'm going to save up and build a set for my car's tails.
I made these superflux led's for my front clear turn signals. My cost is around $8 each!! Ouch!

start on them hatch tails already! The red brake lights always seemed dim to me some nice red leds should look real good behind the lens well behind the red difuser part anyway.

did you have to solder each indivually. cause those are much bigger than the board leds i've worked with?? also are you planning on including a load equalizer with the sets or does each board come with their on because i did'nt see it.

thanks and good luck on the project.

I did all of the soldering. This is the first time I've used the superflux leds. What is a load equalizer and any other information would appreciated.

Inside the housing with just 8 lumileds. I'll be using these 8 because they fit snug in the housing and won't need to be glue or mounted in.

I wish you guys could see these in person!!

Took it dark so you could see the leds.

What is a load equalizer
Usually a wire-wound resistor that makes up for the reduced draw of the LEDs, which stops them from blinking rapidly.

LX-incredible
07-13-2007, 08:52 AM
Are those wired in series? How much do they dim with slight voltage changes?

BITESIZE
07-13-2007, 09:20 AM
They are in a series without any resisters or anything hooked to a 9 volt battery. I don't know anything really about lumileds.

Here is what I am doing with my front turn signals. I am putting these directly in place of my original bulbs.
http://www.superbrightleds.com/specs/115x-xLX3.htm
They are 44 lumens as compared to the high flux led's which convert to 6.25 lumens per unit. These can be purchased for $23 each. They come in white, red and amber and have a viewing angle of 130 degrees.

BITESIZE
07-13-2007, 12:24 PM
^$23 is too damn expensive for one.

One is all you need for a turn signal. They are actually brighter than the original bulb

Blkblurr
07-14-2007, 03:05 PM
Here is the result. I discovered that the wires to the bulb socket had to be reversed because the led bulb expects pos 12 volts at the center contact but Honda wired these with the negative at the center contact.
Before clearing.

it sucks for you hatch guys...its hard to find a clean set of tails at the junkyard...most of them have like lil stress cracks on them.
