Ok finally found some time to put some pics up. I removed pinstripes today, still have some glue to remove and wet sand. I rebonded the SC2 spoiler and did some paint blending and wet sanding. I plan on going over the whole car and get a good base coat then clear the whole thing (minus the windows and tires of course)

Still have some sanding to do on the seams, it will be painted but not look like it is part of the trunk.
Eight bolts, four to a side hold it on as well. I used a Toyota Cashmere biege metalic, it is real close but the metalics are slightley pearl. Once the whole car has been blended and cleared it will all look uniform.

I know about the drop. Im looking around for those civic parts.
The wing has been off the car for a while and I just wanted to finish the project I started almost a year ago. I think the spoiler, not wing, looks ok..I am still contemplating how well it looks at all angles/distances. lol

Ok, I am kind of stuck as to continuing the spoiler project or not. I like the look, to me it is close to a 4gen spoiler but larger and it protrudes beyond the rear of the car, which I like.
Thing is since the car is going to be light colored, the seam of where the spoiler is attached is going to be highy visable from the rear of the car and it just doesnt look quite right to me. If the car were dark green or black it would be invisiible.
It does not matter to me if someone does not like it as it is, I like it but I have to do some moulding in to make it look like it belongs there. I have seen many other makes of cars (IE Pontiacs, just pick one) that the spoiler looks like crap others too that have huge gaps at the attaching points, so this is acceptable to the industry, just not to me.
I am going to have to make it look bonded to the trunk lid. This is going to be considerable more work, or I am going to need another trunk lid.
Should I continue to bond it in, or just trash the whole project?

keep in mind also these pics the spoiler and rear of car are all wet sanded and unfinished

Wow first time I've seen your car! Like the rims! Are those 15x7? What is the offset on them?

The gaps you're talking about, I take it that is due to the curvature of the trunk that the spoiler came off of? Since the Accord trunk is flat, I can see how it won't sit right. Maybe to mock it up better, and if you don't wanna screw up your trunk lid, you could get another trunk lid at the junk yard. That might give you some more freedom to play with bondo and paint, and then you can just toss it when you're done.

Yes I did some work to help correct the curvature issue, but the surface of the stands still comes up short as you can see, even though it mounted flush on the stands to the decklid. I am using epoxy based filler to fill the shadows then I guess I will use something softer to sand for the finish before priming. I know I am going to have to get some glass on it to really blend it in from the point is is now and it is a flip of a coin now to do that or just have a plain decklid.. I need to move on with it so I can get back to the motor work and suspension.
The post is over a month old, I guess I am too add to figure out how to make a garage, signature, or update thread.
40 offset rims I think, I have to look, they were on the EX junker I bought for parts for the DX civiic and I painted them for the Accord they were too bright before.

Does the weber have a/c idle boost too?

NO, I am not using ac, although it is still intact.
If I did use it, I would use a solenoid idle stepper.

Two months and I have not touched the car other than driving it and swapping the cd out of the civic. I have some 15 inch saturn ion steelies I think I am going to put on until I get the suspension right. The offset on the mesh wheels is causing some tire contact in the rear.
Hopefully this weekend will be cleared up so I can get the front of the motor stuff installed and tune it to colder weather.

looks good, you could cut the wing in half, chop out a section,to shorten it,then it would look better and wouldn't hang over the edge. i am still filling gaps on mine, and i've done a ton of work on it already. i might do some work on it this weekend. i am using the fiberglass reinforced long strand filler. then it won't chunk out.

It is supposed to hang over the edge, as i have seen on other cars (other makes) even on the 4g.a little. I know what you mean though, but it does not hang outside the rear profile. To me the shape of the back glass on the sedans, matches it perfectly. Good suggestion though, I did that on a front spoiler for my 72 capri, made from a lip of a Cimmeron Caddy.
2nd GG- yes I know ...its ugly egr, I have made some nice plates before on some of my other rides. I was going to pretty up all of that when I get back to engine detailing.. incorperate the linkage perch somehow maybe and have it all powder coated (not purple, that one is taken :))

2oodoor
11-01-2007, 02:23 PM
the, um.. spoiler
I just came across it, I would never recommend that particular spoiler as it was a PITA to get on. It came off a sc2 which is not quite flat across the back. There are several model and types of mustang spoilers that would be easy to install though, you have to measure your decklid and mounting space before you go to the JY. It needs to be a pretty much flat deck car you get it from. The rear of these sedans and coupes is much like the mustang, IMO.but make sure you measure first, I am not positive if they are not too wide.

No tux, the weber does not have any real PITA issue with cold, but my motor sure does:)
It takes about five minutes to get good and warmed up then it runs smooth.
For all the added benefits I sure wouldnt let that stop me from switching to a Weber.

Another spoiler option y'all might wanna consider would be a Pontiac Fiero wing. It mounts up well to a flat deck, it's straight across the back edge, and deep looking.

I was seriously considering one myself but didn't wanna have to modify one to make it look factory-ish.

Hey Roodoo2, what is that on you adapter plate for the weber (looks like aluminum foil) ? Do you think running without the EGR is going to be a good thing? Trying to figure out if I want to run a plate over it or not. Running without EGR could make the combustion chamber run a little hotter & lead to a burnt valve. Not so sure that is safe, though it looks good for cleaning up the engine bay.

Edit- Your weber looks like it's mounted backwards, what's the reason behind that?

never had any issues in that area

on the adapter plate, after I put it all together I coated the whole thing in high heat epoxy, to make it all one piece with the manifold so to speak. It was not real pretty so I used some furnace tape and trimmed it up some. Still not real pretty but it works great, and even if the plates start to expand some there will not be any vacuum leaks. I got the idea from here, just did it a little differently.

Ok the LX has been waiting for attention and it got some today. It was leaking oil pretty good from under the timing cover (Oil pump confirmed), I was going to buy the whole pump but all it needed was new seals. $9 and some change from Honda. The O ring inside the two halfs of the pump had a split, hard and brittle. Very easy job once you get under the cover!
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t280/roodoo2/1205698804.jpg
So yeah, and I got a cast valve cover, painted it with official Catipilar diesel yellow.(timing cover too) I am pleased how it turned out. I polished the fins before I painted it.. I will try to polish it more later.
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t280/roodoo2/1205698765.jpg

I also installed the GE cam gear, adjusted the valves, retorqued the head, intalled new belt. A word of warning to you who have not installed your gears yet.. check to make sure the adjuster bolts are good and tight before you install, I forgot to and had to reset it, I caught it immediatley. Also do these Adjustru's make a little noise? mine seems to, I went and let some off the tensioner and still it whines like a gear drive but not as loud. Still have the gold top on until the paint dries and I find out what kind of fasteners I need for the cast cover, I am not sure the steel acorn nuts will work???I also need to decide if I am going to do a peeka boo cover,
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t280/roodoo2/1205707416.jpg

These are the plugs after about 5000 miles, I am seeing rich out the tailpipe but these sure don't look rich, they went right back in!! I figure the rich signs I am getting may be because I do not have a FP regulator and it is getting fumes in the air mixture possibly. (weber 32/36)

roodoo I just charged my ac and it works great. Feel like an idiot though been driving it for almost 2 year without and all it needed apparently was freon. Although I'm sure it has a leak somewhere? Anyways with my Holley it dropped it from about 700 RPMs in gear to 600 and still idles well there. My point being that if you have your car tuned right I'm not sure you necessarily need to have a solenoid to step it up? Now if I can find the ^#&*$(#)! exhaust rattling noise I'll be happy. Fixed one exhaust rattling noise and now have one 10 times worse grrrrr. Spoiler looks good on your car looks similar to the Fiero one I put on mine.

I ordered a hood scoop from amazon today... need to cut a big hole in my hood for clearance so may as well. It looks like a WRX so I hope it doesn't look too :rice:if it does I saw another one that was like a mini cowl induction hood.

They were supposed to be like 1-1.5 but no guarantee, they were slightly used.
I am panicking about how low it may go (steep driveway) , and I won't know until everything else is done and I take the car off stands. I may have to go get some oem tophats but no biggie since I could sell these once finished :eatarrow:
I gave up yesterday after wrestling the new ST front bar and it still wouldn't lay down for me, I was tired I reckon. I got the ingals camber kits in, Prothane radius bushings, restored UCA's.
One of the old struts had the end stripped out so that was one of those things that supposed to take 5 min took 2 hours.
Trying to keep momemtum on this project, so far more has been done to it in one week than has been in four years since the engine swap. :chainsaw:

I dunno, the drop on my 2g was supposed to be 1.3 inches. I think it was not really that drastic of a drop at all. I wouldn't worry too much about ground clearance until you get down to at least a 3 inch drop. What's the stock ground clearance on a 3g anyways? Gotta be at least 6 inches... I have a car with 5 inches of ground clearance, and everybody freaks out and thinks it's really low and must scrape on things all the time. I've only scraped the front end once.

While those may look drastically lower, they probably won't compress as much when the car is sitting on them. Just do eeeeet! :)

I finally found some info on the springs yesterday in an archived Nopi catalog.
The only Number One, yellow springs for 86-89 Accords I saw were 2.25 drop.
I haven't found any negative feedback on them other than typical spring snob chatter lol.

I went ahead and got another tophat from the yard and put it all back together with oem tophats for now, still haven't got the units installed though. The one I made won't fit in the hole without cutting out some of the fender tower. The pipe I used fit so well, I think I will have a do over and let the pipe extend down into the tophat around .25" so I can weld it underneath. It will make a much neater looking piece and have less build up to have to fit inside the fender tower.

I also got a new outside door handle and a complete vinyl headliner with visors. I am going to try to dye the dash in the car, using some manilla file folders for masking off the windshield. Those should be manageable enough to get in there really tight. Im going to two tone it like some of the oem ones are but it will be dark graphite upper and satin black lower. I will do the same color break throughout the car, A B and C pillar mouldings dark graphite along with the headliner. Everything below is satin black.

I think Im going back to the yard to find grey door panels which will be much easier to dye the cloth part than this beige brown, in case I can't find a match for the seat material.

My brake caliper is froze on it's pivot pin pretty good. Im worried if I beat on it much more it will be out of tolerance (forever squeaky brakes) so Im going to look for a low mileage car to get the whole knuckle from the lower ball joint up.
That's about it for updates, been sick since the weekend.

obdriver6, yes that is the hatch (http://www.3geez.com/forum/showthread.php?t=72182&highlight=hatches) in that shot :D

Thats the problem with those top hats. Another member did them like that and cut the whole bigger to fit the hot hat. I was planning on doing that but I couldn't find it in my heart to make the whole bigger so I went another route and BTW I'm jelly of your hatch with louvers.

Welding the tube in underneath the tophat plate came out much much neater and easier to finish.
I am wondering though since you can't use the dust cover (which has the bumpstop plate made on to it) should I use a bump stop plate (washer).
The taper on the shock shaft should stop at the upper shock mount bushing sleeve anyway so does the plate need to be there at all?

I am concerned about how much I had to compress the spring to get the nut on the shock. Big difference than when I used just the stock tophat.
Nice travel on the shock though! Now the tophat seems to be crooked, I know I didn't get the tophat absolutely perfect but it isn't nearly as bad as this makes it look! I think it will move into place once it is mounted in the car. I will leave the nut slightly loose so the spring will center itself, then tighten.
I reset the spring in the perch since the picture. Opinions welcome...

Things just don't go quick enough!

I finally got the rear ST bar in, after taking the LCA off, that bar snakes all in and around, that was a little harder to do than I expected. I thought I lost parts then they turn up the next day in the same place I looked ten times before, I hate that.

It looks like it will be a considerable difference in height.

Thanks yall,

I don't have a bat but I have a small sledge hammer, I beat the lip under some yesterday, also tried the useless phone book method. I had a little clearance and drove the car down the street, by the time I got a few hundred yards it started rubbing badly.
I did get to feel the car some, wow not even the same car, really tight and I can't wait to get it on the road.

So I am still at square one, constant contact with tires. Ill get it straight eventually.

Out of the blue though life has brought me another challenge and I won't be able to work on the car at all for several weeks.

Edit: put some neg camber in and beat the lip flat. Drove it a few miles no rubbing but now the car feel too jouncey. The ST bars im loving though. It will sit a while.

Them seats look good G. The paint prep & all takes time. Are you doing single stage or base & clear paint job? I lowered my car 2 1/2" & had to run 205/50/15's on 15" rims.. I like that tophat you made, cause it beat the shit out of my upper strut mounts in no time & had to replace the 20 year OEM ones.. I just used the washer trick in the back for camber & it barely rubbed on the lip of the fender, I beat it up just a tad .. I got some prelude upper control arms if I remember right, something about there a longer or adjustable, been to long ago.

Hope you get though you life challege & keep it up. :)

Inchworm feeling?

2ndGenGuy
09-26-2012, 08:40 AM
Maybe the bouncy feeling will go away after you drive it a bit. After I lowered my 1g, it bounced really bad, but eventually the shocks and springs all settled in and now it seems good. Could just be that I'm used to it now, but the shocks had been sitting on a shelf for a long time, which could be the same case for you. It was recommended in the shock instructions to run them through their full stroke a few times to "de-airate" them or something along those lines. Basically, the impression that I got was after they sit on a shelf for some time, maybe air or gas bubbles get into the oil, and they work better after they've been on the car a while.

Ok, pogo stick then... And followed by slight rebound from the rear it feels like the middle of the car is giving... Picturing inchworm:redx:
So either too much preload on frt coils which i can fix with smaller tophat extentions or im just going to cut some oem springs down 1 coil anput hose back on.

Agreed, if they are oil filled you need to "bleed" them a bit before installing or the shocks will act funny. They should have instructions inside on the correct way to do it, some are pumped right side up, some have to be pumped upside down. if not you will leave air pockets which will cause the shock to do nothing for a split second

2oodoor
09-27-2012, 01:51 PM
I think there is too much preload for one thing since its the rebound that is causing the sharp jounce. I agree with all your saying in general, but this car feels like its leaving the ground whEn it doEs it at road speed, unacceptable ! Lol
The steering is affected. Yup pretty violent.

I probably dont need those extended hats, or not so long anyway.
The shocks are used but pretty mint tokoco blues.
Im considering going back stock or possibly using civic assembled units for a quick fix, I just want it to drive like a normal car but keep he stance, thats why i went thru all the trouble on the hats.

Oh and my life challenge went well, recovery from procedure shuld be faster than expected.

well the material came in and it is identical to the seat material, the light in the house doens't do it justice though... Now I will remove all the door panels and take them apart, dye the vinyl parts with SEM Color Coat, cut the material to match the cloth part and have an outline design sewn in then glue them in place. Also will replace the carpeted portion of the door panel to match the black carpet I got from Mase's car as well.
Note I have the material sideways on the panel for the picture, the pattern goes upright as it does on the seats.

Let's .wait and see how mine turn out first LOL, I'm real excited to get these going because I love tastefully done custom interiors. The cool thing is the materials textures and patterns themselves are so close to OEM ones over the years, but the color combos are unique.

Also I can't remember how the two tone interior dashes were done on those coupes, was it black on top or on bottom, I always liked the look on those... Im going with graphite on everything above the midpoint and black on everything below. Ive already messed up some on that because I dyed the armrests graphite and they attach directly on the cloth part of the panel, ok so black is supposed to be the contrasting color against the blue as the seats are.

The good thing is I am STILL motivated on this project, which is amazing considering all of the distractions. I have enough parts and materials to do plenty without having to spend any more money on it this year..

It is very encouraging especially when things don't go right and it takes a struggle to get back to it.

I have a little body work to roll out on the roof and im cutting a hole in the hood for clearance, that hole may be bigger than I planned at first. I was going for a shaker hood but that may turn into a very large cobra style bolt up scoop.
Edit: ima try to work on decent videos too

Teaser pics. Yes I may wind up clear coating since I had them add flattener to the already flat basecoat (2 stage) and I had the wrong reducer for today so it has a bit of orange peel. I cross coated the shit out of it to the color got in good and uniform so it should be ok.
It's blue as a mugg. lol I won't mention the incompetant 6 gal pancake compressor and 15 $ harbor freight paint gun were not atomizing consistantly as I would like :)

Oh I know the feeling with paint supplies being expensive :( I'm totally broke right now since I've got my car painted and at least I've save about 3x as much with labor.

Nice work with the paint tho I was wondering if you're going to leave it matte finish or glossy but yeah (Y)

Also its not a good idea to let the base coat to fully dry before laying the clear layer on because you had to sand the base after its flashed off and sanding any metallic or pearl coat is a no-no since you're going to mess with the flakes. But then I don't even remember if yours metallic/pearl?

That's true, there is a risk but hopefully this will be ok, i did several cross and fan to get it to lay out the sparkly :) i can always add something to the clear if i sand through too splotchy. Thanks for the comments! ( can't get the clear kit yet $)
I wanted it to be matte but the orange peel is kinda bad some spots, we'll see.
