help!! vacuum to engine error

I just had a mechanic work on my car; he replaced cooling hoses around the intake manifold on a honda accord lxi 86. Now it's giving a map sensor error (#5) which i looked up says is usually not a sensor error, but a disconnected vacuum line. The car is also using up way too much fuel compared to how it was running before (mechanic said map sensor error would cause the car to use too much fuel). I think he didn't check or connect vacuum lines properly when putting it back together.

How serious is this error? How much can I drive the car without it causing serious problems? I don't want to go back to this mechanic; he didn't seem that good or reliable. There was a cooling hose, the pcv lower hose needed to be replaced; he couldn't find the part so he put the old one back (it was torn) after "sealing" it with silicone he said.

The map sensor is located in the black box that hangs on the passenger side of the firewall. The 3 wire connector on the outside of the box is for the sensor, check it. Follow the line from the sensor, it should get unobstructed vacuum from the manifold. I'll see if I can find a diagram.

The lower PCV hose is a pretty common thing to go on these.

Is there a way I can check the vacuum myself?

This mechanic seemed really bad. In addition to the error I mentioned, he said he "cleaned" the engine, now the car hardly even runs. He said that was because the spark plugs needed to be replaced. May be true, but the spark plugs were working just fine before he worked on the car. Now the car has trouble starting from a stop, it is really slow, and then finally starts after some time.
