I went to the junkyard today to buy parts for my Toyota Van and found my old 3G SuperHonda.
As some of you may know (my sig), I recently sold my 3G for scrap. The car was VERY worn out and not worth fixing up. I drove the car down and was paid $170 for it. After a couple of weeks, I decided to go down and look for my car kinda like a viewing before the funeral. Anyway, I didn't see it and immediately thought to myself; Self, I bet they sold it. After all, Mexico is the very next freeway exit. I had convinced myself that the car was serving some Hispanic family across the border:rockon: .
Apparently not.
The SuperHonda was there, Perched upon rims that were welded together to resemble jack stands. The car was filthy as one would expect. All of the newer parts I had replaced were gone :), so were the trans, carb, radiator, and all of the A/C components that didn't work.
I was not expecting this, so I didn't have my camera to take photos. I did, however buy back the instrument cluster that had been staring me back in the face all of these years. Some body drove the car an additional .3 mi (it now reads 500,122.5).
I am glad to see the good parts go to other 3G's.

I'll edit this post when I have pics, so there will be a public viewing.

Take care guys...CAH you too.

Matt.

Yes, and no. I didn't like the way the car was "ravaged", But I am happy that the good parts will keep other 3G's on the road.
For some reason, there was a big pile of $hit from other cars inside. Also a big pile of dirt (wtf). Someone removed all of the fuses in the engine compartment and the "Black box of vacuum death" was missing. The motor was left hanging by the one remaining motor mount.
What a depressing thread.

Seeing the car in this state is a bit sad, but just think, maybe it will become a toaster, a can that holds dog food, or a piece of school playground equipment. :)
Most likely it will become re-bar used to hold up some concrete structure somewhere.
Well, I can honestly say that getting rid of the car was a relief. I kept the car this long just to see if it could reach 500k, and it did. A job well done. The last year was a bit of a struggle to keep it on the road. Lots of rigging, not to mention $.05+$.10.
I was considering giving the car away as you know, but I felt the car was too unsafe. I knew all of the quirks, but no one else did.
If I had the room to store it while considering my options, I would. But, I own 4 cars as it is and it's enough work juggling them around.
Because of this thing we call the internet, the 3G has been immortalized...that's enough for me.

this reminds me of when I saw one of my ex cars in the boneyard.
no flaming.. I had a 85 Cavalier. hatchback, TL or something like that, it came factory power steering delete, sway bars, factory tuned header, the motor looked like an LT1 cut in half ..it was just a standard 2.0 though. I painted it custom rangoon red which is red but almost looks orange but not enough to say its orange, I had SS graphics from and El camino. limo tint. it was a nice looking car for what it was, Somebody hit my wife in it, and because of the miles and age their insurance totaled it regardless of how good shape it was in other than the damage. It made me sick, I couldnt buy it back then either for some reason it was not allowed.
about a year later I as at the JY looking for parts and saw it.. man my heart dropped. It is a weird feeling... maybe like seeing your ex girlfreind out somewhere or something I guess. like you are not even expecting what is filling your eyes.

This is the third time I've seen one of my previously owned vehicles here. It still sucks, eventhough I knew it would be here.

Actually, these Vans come with the "Y"series engines found in the Toyota forklifts.
1984-85 had the 3Y, 2.0
1986-89 had the 4Y, 2.2
This is an overhead valve motor with a similar design to the "T" and "K" series motors.
Here is a pic of the Toyota Van engine:

Here is an example of a 3RZ supercharged (from a Tacoma 4X4) swapped into a Van chassis:

Its not fun to see one of your cars that you have applied a lot of TLC to even sitting in a junk yard, and its even worse to see the mess they become as they are stripped.

I got to see my first car, a 69 Chevelle, sitting in a junk yard that sits beside an overpass one day with appearently all it's usefull parts gone on my way home from work for lunch. When I came buy there in the afternoon after work, the car was only about a foot tall, it had been crushed. Not fun at all, in fact it was a crushing experence for me.

Well, There is closure.

The car has been crushed.

It is not my intention to resurrect this (dead) thread.

I just wanted to share my grief, and say thank you to everyone who has volunteered their knowledge and support in order to keep the car on the road for sooo long.

Take care guys!

Matt.
