So this weekend was pretty kick ass. Filled with 2gee goodness!

Thursday night I drove out to Xvok's house and spent the evening until midnight pulling the engine out of his '83 hatchback. He's already done some work on it, replaced some smashed fenders... Worked on that until midnight Thursday night.

Got up at 6:30am for work, then left town at about 6:30pm for Castlegar, BC where Guyhatesmycar lives. Took us about 10 hours to get there, since my buddy who came with me forgot his passport 1 1/2 hours into the trip so we had to turn around. Distance from Olympia, WA to Castlegar, BC is about 470 miles. Driving 65-70mph, I got an average of 31.9MPG with the Weber! Yeah!

Map (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=olympia,+wa+to+castlegar,+bc&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=63.9851,112.5&ie=UTF8&z=7&om=1)

I got into Castlegar around 5:30am Saturday morning. Called Mike (guyhatesmycar) and woke him up, and we immediately went to Guy's shop and started sanding, touching up, and masking off Mike's car... We worked until about 12:30am (20 hours with a few hour break to swim in the river and eat some delicious burgers). Mike actually stayed until 5:30am Sunday morning to finish getting it ready and Guy put in primer... Yeah almost 24hours straight of hardcore 2gee action...

So here are the pics of the most excellent work!

Thanks again to John and Chris for all the help. I totally owe you guys one! The fenders are going to remain Jackie Chan for now, until I find OE ones in decent shape.

Sounds like you guys had a blast. You had that puppy stripped out!

Sometiimes if you put a jack under the uniframe under the drivers door and jack it up some when you mount fenders it helps it come into line better. It has been a while but I think you leave the bottom attaching hardware loose but tighten the upper, and when you let the jack down it pulls the fender back.
That may or may not work depending on that type of fender, It works good on fenders with interstructual support. A 2X4 is a bodymans most handy tool!

Dedication to the old school Hondas! Hard core Honda lovin' right there. Too bad Hazwan couldn't have flown over to help. You guys would have knocked it all out. Looks like you got a lot done in a single weekend. A telethon like effort.

The baby is getting washed and ready for paint as we speak. I'll take some pics tomorrow of the brand new hue and post them for everyone. (or rather, have mike post them).

There was definitely a lot of working and not so much sleeping all weekend. Hopefully all goes well with the inspection on Friday and the former "rainbow roadster" will be on her way!

We have to fix a run in the hood and the door (both bug related) but I'm going over right now to start on the interior.

I feel ya with the bugs. They just love the new paint :thumbdn:

Not to mention that there was a massive invasion of those little bastard bugs up there. When I drove into town, I must have killed about 5,000 of them with my windshield. I thought it was raining at first. Nasty fuckers. I sucked as many as I could out of the paint booth with a vacuum.

Well we repainted the hood, cowl, passenger door and fender today. The door, fender and cowl all turned out well, but a bunch of water came out of nowhere and spotted the hood. Tomorrow it's getting put together. Pictures sometime tomorrow? :suspense:squint:

I'm dragging the camera over tonight, we didn't get it done in time for the inspection today, so close though. Just some interior parts and that bloody windshield trim and it's good to go. Pulled an all nighter again trying to get it done, me, Mike, and Guy worked together until about 4am, then I stayed until noon, and called it quits. I'm going to finish it this weekend, head up to red deer and work and come back for it on a weekend.

Well hello everyone, I'm up in Red Deer for the forseeable future, I'll probably make it home sometime next month to put the car on the road. I didn't end up having it completely ready for the inspection before I left, my buddy who was gonna install the interior ended up bailing, so the car is 95% complete. It only needs some interior, 2 pieces of windshield trim, and the rear bumper trim. The end result was me toyota'ing my ass up on unbalanced 33's with 4.38:1 axle ratios and a 1:1 top gear (fourth). It was a shaky, high revving and slow ride.

Anyways, I'll ask my girlfriend if she can post up some pictures on this thread, and satiate everyones need for the true 2g resto result.

LOL I know exactly how that feels. I'm in the same situation while I get my car painted. Driving something slow, bumpy and loud sucks.

Anyway, post tons of pics!

Glad to hear you made it! That must have been exciting in your Toyota... At least you got that engine taken care of! Can't wait to see how the Accord looks! If I wasn't so damn busy, I'd go up and do the interior myself. Guess it won't be as easy to come visit you in Red Deer either. Seems like it might be a little bit longer of a drive!

Must be a relief to see it togeather again after so much work.
Was worried you might rush to get it going & take it travelling only to find teething problems far from home after so long off the road.
Red & Cream (or is it grey?) interior pretty wild!
Shame you couldn't move/replace the Rear side marker reflectors without complications.

2ndGenGuy
08-13-2007, 03:05 PM
I think it's a grey interior with red seats and wheel. Seeing it with the red car, I think it's not a bad combination!

08-14-2007, 03:27 PM
My Lancia's came with dark brown interior with brightly coloured (red, blue, green, yellow) cloth or leather seats & flash in the door trims factory...
Goes to show such combinations can work.

Have seen photos of JDM EG Civic's with such interiors as well! Though might have been black or grey background colour.

The car is covered in DUST. It had just gotten back from the Nancy Greene Proving Grounds (ie highway, 4-8% grade for 15km), a lot of beer, and some brakestands and a lot of e-brake slides. We borrowed my buddies plates for this trip:naughty:

You can still see that the rear bumper trim and bumperettes are still AWOL, My buddy is working on that.

The Red/Grey interior was unintentional, the grey seats were trashed, and I happened across a parts car that had mint, although red, seats. I have grey seatcovers, and plan on using them. I do prefer the grey interior, but mine is the only one I've seen.

The body lines came out incredibly well, the hood turned out ok, I think the paint looks great. What do you all think of the colour?

Looks sorta pink in the new pics, weird. Thats the chinese fender alright, and no, the right door is not sitting flush at the rear. It does need a slight adjustment. It's even the original door to the car.

Very nice.
Almost needs a 'H' stuck on the tail... & some red on the lower halfs of the bumper ends to match the body. The sides look so pure without their rub-strips.
Will be looking forward to seeing everything else that will be going on/in to it.

Fuckin A! Looking good! Man it came out straight as an arrow! Good job on all that DIY first-time bodywork! It's awesome to see it in color! Must feel pretty good to finally have her done! Its unreal that is the same car!

And I fucking love the decklid with no emblems on the back! It's so clean! People will be clueless as to what that clean old machine is in front of them! I think the color looks like what my 1g hatch is supposed to be. Except my 1g is faded, and not nearly as pretty as that!

I think you should repaint the bumperettes and the tops of the bumpers themselves grey so they match, then hit the bottom of the bumperettes with the body color, so they look 2.5g LX style! That would really set off the car, and you wouldn't have to swap on the 1-piece bumpers.

I also don't think your red seats look bad. They match the car, and your steering wheel!
