You need receipts for everything that was put on that car, you can actually take receipts for mods that have been placed on a car, and have them value the car with the mods. Or junk the car and buy it back really cheap with a junk title :deal: . If that doesnt convince them, this car is in excellent condition for a car that was made over 18 years ago. People are willing to buy these cars in excellent condition for much more then what I think the Insurance company is willing to pay. Here are a couple examples.

1987 Honda Accord LX Sedan $3995.00 (http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?car_id=227398135&dealer_id=72918&car_year=1987&marketZipError=false&awsp=false&search_type=both&num_records=25&keywordsfyc=&make=HONDA&model=ACCORD&transmission=&distance=0&address=76016&make2=&default_sort=priceDESC&advanced=&certified=&max_mileage=&max_price=&sort_type=priceDESC&min_price=&body_code=0&end_year=1989&keywordsrep=&color=&start_year=1986&drive=&search_lang=en&page_location=findacar%3A%3Aispsearchform&engine=&fuel=&doors=&style_flag=1&cardist=1669)

1989 Honda Accord LX(carbed) Sedan $4480.00 (http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?car_id=226261286&dealer_id=1328147&car_year=1989&marketZipError=false&awsp=false&search_type=both&num_records=25&keywordsfyc=&make=HONDA&model=ACCORD&transmission=&distance=0&address=76016&make2=&default_sort=priceDESC&advanced=&certified=&max_mileage=&max_price=&sort_type=priceDESC&min_price=&body_code=0&end_year=1989&keywordsrep=&color=&start_year=1986&drive=&search_lang=en&page_location=findacar%3A%3Aispsearchform&engine=&fuel=&doors=&style_flag=1&cardist=794)

and here is a bunch more if you want to search through them. (http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/searchresults.jsp?num_records=25&search_lang=en&page_location=findacar%3A%3Aispsearchform&search_type=both&distance=0&address=76016&marketZipError=false&style_flag=1&make=HONDA&model=ACCORD&make2=&start_year=1986&end_year=1989&min_price=&max_price=&transmission=&engine=&drive=&doors=&fuel=&max_mileage=&color=&keywords_display=&sort_type=priceDESC&body_code=0&certified=&advanced=&default_sort=priceDESC&awsp=false&keywordsrep=&keywordsfyc=)

So those cars are a lesser model then o' blue, and o' blue has many mods that were quit a bit of $$$ to add to the car.

tough call
How bad do you want it Mr Cheeseburger?
Can you talk to the lady to see if she will just give you a hundred, or two three, and call it a night? It is not going to cost YOU that much to fix the car with the help of your buddys is it?
sometimes you just have to take one for the team

cheese's car from the looks of it could easily be worth 6-7k. definitely not salvage price yet. i say if it works out, cheese, you find another beater and make this a weekend ride/showcar. i think it would do alright in shows in it's category as it is.

If it were my car, I'd take out a loan and fix it myself... Only if I was getting jerked around. Seriously that's not alot of damage.

No kidding,
if it was your sweetie and she needed some kind of surgery and you ins co would not pay for it, are you gonna let her die??? F*ck no... this is a no brainer , DUH easy fix
You can put mayonaise jars at the 7-11 with a picture of your dog in front of the car and say "old blue "needs a special surgury or it is to the boneyard with her..... please donate to help!! they will think it is helping the mutt... :bowrofl:
You can use MessyH car for parts, he dont need two cars :bowrofl:
Seriously, yes, don't have tunnel vision as to a solution here

So why don't you let them total it, then buy back the car? It's usually only like $75 to do a buy-back... Then take the money they give you for the value of the car and fix it. They can't just take your car away from you, and they are bound by contract to be financially responsible for the damage. That's one way to do it. Just reject their asinine, low-ball offers at the value of the car until you get what you want, then buy it back.

that may be one way,, but salvage titles are a PITA in some states besides being very time consuming, and confusing, and you have to kiss the final inpectors hind quarters sometimes to get right.

Did I somehow overlook the pics of the damage? Do we have them? How much is the insurance company offering? If there are no pics, how much damage was there?
This is the problem everyone with an older car faces. If the car is old enough and the insurance company will write a stated value policy, you can put a higher-than-book value on it, and then your policy would make up the difference in a case like this. But without that, even if the car is super-cherry like Cheeseburger's, it's an uphill road.
I don't know how damaged it is, but I have been there before with my SE-i. The last shunt was when a tractor trailer rubbed my left front panel, took off the bumper, and messed up the hood. Repair estimate was something around 1800, and that would have meant that they would have totalled the car, which I could have kept for a couple of hundred. But that means salvage title, which is problems forever. I talked to the appraiser, and we agreed he would put in an estimate of just below the "totalled" threshhold. I didn't get all the money, but for a couple of hundred not having a salvage title was worth it.
Cheeseburger, if you don't have any kind of stated-value insurance, that's what I would consider doing. Get as much money as you can without totalling the car, then make it up out of your own pocket.

Unless you plan on selling your car, Salvage title is no big deal... Maybe I'm the only crazy person who doesn't plan on selling my car. :crying:

My advice is to not junk it. All you need is a trunk, tail lights, and some minor body work to pull out the dents near the tail lights. Try to talk to the lady and see if she is willing to at least pay for the parts that are needed to fix it. Another thing is to show receipts to the insurance company like some people are saying. Your car has come a long way, and putting her away because of some minor surgery is just ridiculous.
