Yeah, so a buddy of mines has this 88 lx-i and is pretty handy. I KNOW many of you guys have done the axles on your 3 G and said it ain't no thang. There's always the garages, but they do shitty work, use shitty parts, and charge shitty prices. Other than that, they're  I know he'll probably need a puller of some kind, but we can handle up on that. Could I get like a step by step, detailed explanation on the passenger side of an AT axle/CV joint change out, including likely bolts that will be stuck/rusted?? Thanks!!

Take off the lower pinch fork bolt, take off the front sway bar, you need a BIG socket to get the nut loose that holds the cv boot into the arm assembly. I had to buy on at sears for $5.00 :(. There are others that I dont remember right now. Anyway, you wont need a special tool, you need a crow bar to stick in there and give it a good pop. Shove the new one in, put it back together and wallah :).

1)With the tire still on the ground, use a breaker bar to loosen the axle nut. Make sure you punch out the tab first (you'll see what I mean when you look at it).
2)Raise up the car, remove the tire, and take out the strut fork to lower arm bolt (since the axle goes through there).
3)Drain the tranny fluid
4)Seperate the lower ball joint from the lower arm and crank the steering wheel all the way to the left (in your case) which will swing out the whole suspension so there's enough room to get the axle end out of the hub.
5)Now go underneath the car and pop out the axle from the tranny by using a decent sized flathead or crowbar.
6)Install is reverse of removal. Make sure you push the axle into the tranny so that you hear/feel a click.

if you can't get a puller ( lower ball joint and tie rod ) use a BIG HAMMER and hit it heard and it will come out ! :D

Wheel nut axle size is 32mm and crack it loose before you put the car in the air.

Y'all got the 411 on this project down... So using a crowbar or screwdriver to "pop" it out of the tranny casing is safe so long as you don't really bear down on it?? Then, just make sure it clicks or pops back in when installing the new one??? Other than that, I think the puller will be the way to go as we found out doing the rear A arms. You can smack it for an hour, or twist a couple turns. And leaving the brake rotor and caliper in place while changing out the shafts is  too.

Good luck! Oh, one pry should easily pop the axle out of the tranny.

BTW you 'll need a tool to fill the tranny fluid !

I think a long funnel will work. The drain bolt is just a 3/8" square, right?? Just stick the ratchet in there and turn/loosen it up and let the draining commence. Then, put 3.2 qts of Dextron 3 ATF back in...

You don't have to drain the tranny fluid. I had both of my half shalft replaced and neither time did they drain my fluid. I was watching both times. And That lower control arm bolt will most likely be frozen in there. Both of mine were. You can actually take the CV shaft apart to fit it through there instead of trying to screw with that stuck bolt.

I use a turkey bastor to fill mine before but now I use that lucas stuff as an additive and it comes in a handy dandy squirt bottle so I fill that with the oil.

I was told to put 10w-30 for tranny fluid. Anybody else use that ?
