I know I've been through this crap before. What is the number of the 3.4W bulb that goes in the door puddle lights? It's short and fat and has 2 tabs on it. None of my manuals has the number for it. Thanks!

Not the OEM part number, the SAE number so I can go anywhere but Honda and get it.

That's not it. It looks more like a small flashlight bulb with a true silver base and 2 tabs.

Hmm, my door bulbs have a regular lightbulb style socket. Push them down and twist to lock... They aren't the wedge shaped bulbs. I think they're called BA9S.

Crap, that's the name of the base. It's a 168 bulb. Same as you put in your license plate lights.

This site has a great reference database... Great for exterior bulbs... not so great for interior stuff.

Cool. I tried that very website and a few others, but no one had the door lights listed. I would say the bulb looks like a typical brake light, only much much smaller. It has the two tabs on the base that you twist to remove from the socket. I can't remember what the license plate lights look like, but they have to be small. I wish they had the damn number stamped on the bulb! You're probably right as usual. I'll find out for sure after a bit.

Usually, I just pull the bulb out, and go match it up to something in the auto parts store on the rack. Thats the only way I ever know for sure. Buying bulbs online in a huge pain! Especially when the manuals don't list the bulbs in them either!

Sorry guys, you're all wrong. The door bulbs are festoon style, same as the trunk light and dome light. I think the length may be 31mm - don't hold me to it. You can find them at any auto parts place and also at Wally World.

You know what? I have to apologize. I just saw the 89 in your sig and not the 84. It is quite possible that the 2nd gens used different bulbs. Most profuse apologies.

You're all ghey. And you're all wrong. I took the bulb to CarQuest and they didn't have a listing for it either. It is the same bulb used in the door puddle lights until 1989. We substituted a 1895 bulb and it does work in there. Now, the lightbulb part on the 1895 is fatter but it looks like it clears the lens. The bottom part is the same. It's like a bunch of techs revolted and said "Put a bigger fucking bulb in there so we can grip it to remove it." If you break the bulb and need to remove the light socket for some reason you have to pretty much take off the WHOLE door panel. Plus, the 1895 is MUCH easier to pull out (twist 90 degrees). Wal Mart has some listing on their computer as c5w or something. They had the 1895's at Wally world, so I just got them. Another special Honda part that drove my friend at CarQuest nuts! So yeah, 1895 FTW!!

Nice work on the research. If it fits, you're good to go there! I've replaced my door lights with LED lighting, so I shouldn't ever have to replace them again. :D I know it was a pain trying to figure it out... Been there.

Negative on mine. My dome light has that barrel shape and I recall some of my other Hondas having that shape in the door lights. It was fun, but I think I figured it all out.

I had bad luck with those festoon led lights. Mine burnt out.

The one I bought for my dome light burned out, too, in very short order. I took it apart and soldered my own white LED in it. It was too directional and did not provide enough lumens to go into the dome light so I have it in one of my "puddle" lights. I doubt any of the LED variants will work that great for the dome light.

I've got one of the LED festoon bulbs in my dome light. It's got 4 little surface mount LED's in it, so it works pretty damn well. It's bright, but it's also blue, so it's still hard to see. The map light in the sun visor works pretty well though.

Mine also had four surface mount LED's. It was that bright blue color, same as yours. Yes, it was extremely bright, but the light was not diffuse like a light bulb so it tended to light a fairly narrow area. I keep a 10W festoon bulb in my dome light so I am used to being able to see when I turn on the light. LED's have their place, though. I replaced my D4 light after the third time it burned out with an LED. I also have LED's in my front marker lights.
