View Full Version : Trailer wiring

There's a plug on the rear right side of the car to hook up the trailer wiring.

It has 6 connectors on it and looks just like a normal Honda plug.

Anyone knows what plug would be compatible with it so I can wire this "OEM" style? :D

I would visit your local U-Haul. They've usually got a crapton of adapters for adapting OEM wiring to a flat-4 style configuration. Or any moving or van-rental place should have stuff like that too. Since U-Haul sucks ass.

Does anyone know if connectors are available for this connector that Carot asked about? I think they were only mounted in 1989 models.http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/jj63/griffonks/trailer003.jpg

I haven't found a connector yet (Didn't actually look for one)

Keep us updated if you find anything.

I ordered a Hoppy 43105 trailer wiring kit from autopartsnerd.com to see if it fit for $4.07 and $12.90 shipping (what a joke). Says it fits 94 - 2001 accords. Was worth the $17 for the chance. Never used the nerd before either so god knows how long it will take.

haha the only time im gonna involve "trailer" and "3G" together in a sentence, it's gonna be something like this: "the 3G has its own trailer to ride in" ahahah

I found this, but it may have round pins, and the pics look like it takes flat. But this says for 86-89 Accord. So I don't know.http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/search/?D=standard+sitc424&Ntt=standard+sitc424&Dx=mode+matchallpartial&Ntk=Main&Ntx=mode+matchallpartial&N=1631+4294963890+10605&Nty=1&V=1631&Vh=Honda&V=1631+4294963890&Vh=1989%20Honda

I doubt if you would really tow anything, but here is a hitch.

I have that hitch, pulled it from a junker at a pull and save in Denver for $20. I have pulled a light 6' x 8' trailer without trouble. Never load it above 500 pounds although the 89 3g is rated for 1,000 with a 100 pound tongue weight. My 81 Chevy 3/4 gets about 11mpg and the Colorado emissions department just decided after 10+ years that my 3/4 ton needs a smog pump. Problem is that I put big-ass headers on the truck 18 years ago for more power, or I could just bolt a new smogger and valves on. I really don't want to go hunt up rotten headers and fight the exhaust system. All of us know what a pain 20 year + old exhaust parts are. Anyway, until I can manage to plate the beast I am truckless and 500 pounds or short trips with 1000 pounds will keep some $ coming in.

are you sure you don't have one? I'm pretty sure most came with it (My hatch doesn't seem to have one tough)

It's hidden behind some blue tape near the right side tail light loom.

My Chilton's manual says that Honda does not recommend that 1984 through 1988 vehicles tow any type of trailer 89's and up can tow a little bit. maybe the JDM's were different and Carots 3g hot-rod with the beefed up suspension and drive-train would tow a ton.... for sure.

350 mile round trip with trailer hauling a full size refrigerator to our rental- only problem was the lx didn't want to go faster than 70mph in 4th, had to kick it to 3rd to get 75mph speed limit on the interstate. $50 worth of fuel @ $2.50/gal for the 350miles...

So, anyone found a male connector for this plug?

I think it was only on 1989 models indeed...

I found this:

http://www.jcwhitney.com/trailer-connector-kit/p2019097.jcwx?filterid=c2415d855y1989j1#

It seems to tap into the tail light connectors so it would work with all years I guess.

i couldn't find one of those plugs on my cars. I'm pretty sure if you loom through a stock accord loom, you'll find a male plug somewhere that will fit lol

you can get a box at walmart or just about anywhere that converts the separate ambers to the output needed for a combined brake and turn signal trailer(most of them) I just put ambers on my trailer. These cars are just fine to haul a small trailer, I wouldn't use the auto to haul anything though. If a Volkswagen bug can tow a camping trailer, with 60 horsepower, our cars shouldn't have an issue.

Hey, Carotman. If you need a hitch, my 89 came with one... I guess i should take a look for the wiring on mine, too, huh? I took the thing off, but i can probabily find it.. if it wasnt in the 87. At any rate i could call the previous owner back n ask what he used to wire the trailer...

Old thread revival.

The connector really looks like a 6P250 TL

CNA250-TL (http://www.easternbeaver.com/Main/Elec__Products/Connectors/CNA250-TL/cna250-tl.html)
6 way tang less 6.0mm latched connector (http://kojaycat.co.uk/epages/950000457.sf/en_GB/?ObjectPath=/Shops/950000457/Products/6W-CNA-NAT)

What do you guys think?

It also looks like the same connector found on this Miata

Ok, I ordered the CNA250TL connector. It turns out it fits perfectly.

So, if you have an 1989 Accord and don't want to hack your wiring to install trailer lights, just order one of those.

Glad to know the connector works.

Jean, I've seen this on both my 89 lxi's and I do believe that my 88 DX parts hatch has this connector and is wrapped from the factory in blue electrical tape

Not sure if this helps, but there's a picture of the factory connector in the '89 Electrical Troubleshooting Manual, p. 274.

Jean , i could be wrong but i vaguely recall the same plug on my 87 hatch, however that hatch was built in the 3rd / 4th quarter of 87. I checked my 88 DX hatch, it does have the trailer plug in addition to my 89 hatch, ill get pictures later.

Nice.

I guess they added this in 1988 then. By 87 Hatch doesn't have this (and I wish it did). My 1987 Electric Troubleshoot Manual doesn't mention this trailer wiring plug but my 1989 manual does.
