Just got finished installing my new MSD 6aL. It definitely smoothed out my idle. But haven't really noticed much of a performance gain
yet. I still have my spark plugs gapped at about .048-.050. I didn't have time to regap the plugs yet but will regap to about .054 soon and see what happens. In the mean time, here's a pic of it installed. I used the same spot that a lot of others have. The installation took a little over 1 hour and was pretty straight forward using the How-to.

Peace out..

You wont notice much unless your ignition was failing to begin with.

Damn!!!!!There went $200 down the drain..

You get a rev limiter out of the deal. And you did say it stablized your idle a bit.

Oh cool the stuff has a rev limiter... Hmm I could restrict myself to a safer 6,500 rpm. :D

the msd will be handy once you start doing real performance mods

True, true...

So I guess it's not a total lost yet since I do plan on getting headers, cat, and 2.25 piping soon.. I actually had them ordered but nopi was out..

Yes, the 6aL does have a rev limiter but it is in increments of 1,000 so you would have to either set it at 6,000 or 7,000.

why would you buy a MSD, if you were not aware that it wasnt going to give you massive amounts of hp, sounds like you impulsivly bought. Just a peice of advice, research hardcore b4 you buy anything small or large. but glad to hear it works well

That's not how it is at all. Like I mentioned above, I was planning to install the MSD along with the Headers, cat, and piping that I ordered from nopi. But unfortunitely, Nopi is on back order right now on the headers and cat. I figured that once the header, cat and piping were installed, the engine would be able to flow more exhaust gas faster thus increasing the need for faster more reliable means of igniting the fuel. That's where the MSD and Accel coil come in to play. The Msd just happened to come in first so I installed it first. I wasn't expecting much from the msd alone.
Once the headers, cat and piping are installed, I also plan(in the distant future) on adding a regrind cam, bigger injectors and fuel pressure regulator. The Msd is just a small part in the whole picture that once everything is completed should benifit the whole system in the end.

That's all......

Peace out..

I noticed a little gain with mine.

As for the rev imit they are in incriments of 200rpm you can but packs of pills that go from X,000 to X,800

They are actually in increments of 100. But they only come in packs incremented by 200. So you can buy 6000, 6200, 6400, 6600, 6800, or 6100, 6300, 6500, 6700, 6900.

Oh, that's cool. Mine only came with a 3000, 4000, 5000, 6000, 7000, and 8000 limiter. I didn't realize you could buy others. That's good to know.

Thanks..

You can get them in any range from 2000 to 14000 if I'm not mistaken (the lowest maybe 3000). They only come in 5 packs and they want like $25 for the damn pack.

I might as well let this cat out of the bag.

Here's a table of all the msd soft chip resistance values. You'll need excell to view it. Those little things are just resistors after all. All you have to come up with is a way to securely plug them into the msd box.

I'm pretty sure that you can modify a MSD 6A (without the limiter)

They must just use the same thing as a 6AL but disable the feature on the 6A

I knew it......
I was just going to do an experiment today and see what those little rev limiter tabs really were. I was pretty sure that they were just resisters. Thanks for letting the cat out of the bag Andy. I would have eventually figured it out but this just confirms my hypothesis..
