I have an 88' accord LX. I want to install my aftermarket coolant temperature gauge/sensor. If I unhook the factory sensor, will it affect the performance of the car? Does the computer or whatever need the feedback from the coolant temperature sensor, or can I just remove it and put my aftermarket one in and use it instead? Thanks

nope, your car will be fine. the motor uses 2 seperate sensors, one for the ECU and another for the gauge. The one you're looking at unplugging is the one at the rear of the manifold (the ECU one is underneath the manifold) so everything will be ok just be careful that your new gauge is accurate, maybe you should leave the factory one connected for a little while so that you can get a feel for the normal operating temp. reading on the new gauge.
