B20a, D16 or B18 into 1st gen?
Hi all. Recently spotted a JDM '86 prelude B20 & 5speed I am seriously considering getting it for either my 1st gen Accord hatch or Prelude.
Either application would likely require custom driveshafts (& mountings & wiring &.....) & prefer a hydraulic clutch, with the Accord also posing difficulties routing exhaust past a frt subframe designed for a rear exhaust, but more desirable since its practicallity makes it better as a daily driver where torque would matter more.
Obviously both weigh around 930kg so an Integra DOHC D16 or B18(non-vtec) (as they become more affordable) would also be tempting options however I gather the early B20 shares the engine mounting arrangements used on earlier Honda without the additional g/box mounting.
& having an '89 CR-X SiR (B16A) I still appreciate the more consistant torque curve & gearing of my Accords original 1602cc even though it bears no comparison performance wise, so I thought a larger capacity tempting though I have no experiance with any of these other engines to compare.
Australia also never offically recieved the early B20 so getting parts to refurbish & strengthen this 300,000+ Km drivetrain of unknown condition frightens me somewhat So I wanted to get some opinions.
& anyone seen any dimensional comparisons between these engines, esp. cam-cover to g/box end to know if it might even fit!
for comparison: (conservative pwr)
D16 DOHC = 113kg/251 lbs.
130hp
B16a = 140kg/309 lbs.
155hp
B18a = 134kg/297 lbs
B20a = 126kg/280 lbs
145hp
A20a = 127kg/282
135hp
EL1602 = 145kg/322lbs
80hp
