Well I have the pipe blocked off for years with out any problems with the idle or other wise. I forgot to put it on when I did the thermostat so I just cut the ends and plugged them with bolts and high temp rtv.

Are you saying it wont idle or it wont go past 3000 rpms ?

If the EGR Valve is unpluged and CLOSED it shouldn't matter

If it Won't go below 3000 that doesn't sound EGR Related

well ok then then that solves the mystery on what that line does but what do you guys think would be the problem with the high idle i tried turning it down and it didnt even budge.

Well what were you guys working on? Usually a idle that high is a vacuum leak of some sort with the intake or TB. Unless you been messing with the throttle cable.

His car is idling at 3,000 rpms. When he took it for a drive the rpms dropped and the car died. I say clean the carb out really well and go from there.

check around your carb lines, this exact thing happend to me except my mech screwd it up, i had an auto and the car would automaticly excel and would not stop, took it back to my mech and he fixed it for free and gave me another car visit for free (due to i coulda sewd him for letting it leave his shop that way) but check facum lines and tuneings sounds like 1 of the 2 or both, a bad vacum coulda made you adjust the idel up 2 much to comp, so check both

I had a similar issue with a car I was working on. In the end, it took a weber carb swap to get the thing running properly. I'm pretty sure a carb rebuild and a long testing session with a mityvac would get you fixed quite well.

hehe that's what I'm working on now. New gauges, leds to replace all the interior lights, and new carpet are the next things on the list to complete. I'm going to remove the rear seats but I think I'll wait until I buy my racing seats to do that.

you need to make sure the vacuum line is connected to the idle boost dashpot (passenger side)

http://www.3geez.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=3721

It's labled idle diaphragm (line #6) in this drawing. if that is not connected to engine vacuum it will hold the throttle open.
