The Resurrection Of "Ole Blue"

Well its all said and done. Its time to really restore this accord back to when it was 1989 lol. I'm gong to use this thread as my "update thread" to show the recent progress i have done to the Accord.
For those of you who don't know my car was involved in a rear collision. It left my car looking like this

My plans right now my plans are to have the car at the body shop by the 1st of next month. Ive decided to take the car to M.O.B. works in Orange county for the repairs and the paint job. I asked around and i have been told that M.O.B is the best place to get work done to my car. They are a bit pricey but its worth it. I have seen a few cars that they have painted and oh man the craftsmanship's the have is amazing. They really take their time with their paint jobs and repairs. They have had a few cars that they have worked on featured on magazines like "Honda Tuning" and a few others. I went on Monday to talk to Miguel the owner of M.O.B to get quoted for the paint job. I was quoted $6,000.00 for the paint job and repair of the rear accident. That quote is basically only covering the labor and paint. I will be providing both new front and rear bumpers to m.o.b. The car is getting almost a full paint job. Everything is getting painted except the engine bay.( trunk, under the carpet, door jams, under the window trim, under the door trim.)Also i am going to be striping the car myself. Its one of the best ways of saving myself some money in this project. I decided to wait on getting the engine bay painted. Im hoping by next summer i should have the engine swap done so ill just wait till im ready to swap in the motor. I was told that the job was going to take a month. M.O.B uses Dupont paints so they also use quality products.

As far as what color i am going to paint the car. Im really leaning towards the same color, but ive been looking around. for similar colors to the Laurel Blue that my car has right now. So far i found these two

Suzuka Blue Metallic. This blue came with the 2006 Honda s2000

Hmmm....for 6k they should be doing everything. Around here 6k will buy you paint made of gold. That also includes full bodywork and sanding down to bare metal/starting from scratch. About 3 years ago my brother was restoring a 1987 Chevy Silverado. The truck had a brand new Edlebrock rebuild 350 in it, but the body was in pretty rouch shape and had a lot of wear tear dings, etc. He paid around $1500 total for sanding, bodywork, paint, everything and got one of the best jet black jobs I have ever seen in my life. Oh yeah they also repaired damage from an accident as well that included a bed into cab dent and bent rear frame unerneath bed. Im just saying that deal sounds kinda rough to me esp. if you are stripping it yourself. you do get what you pay for but to me thats a ripoff imo. But if you got the monies to do it, go wherever and pay whatever ya want. Glad to see ya getting on the project!

Excellent to hear cheese. best of luck on the begginings of your rebuild. And I think the suzuka blue would be the better choice of the two... however laurel blue still is my fave.

Here in the Northeast, I inquired recently about a repaint of my car, which to the uninterested eye still looks damn good. Including cutting out and rewelding in two new rear fender arches, they quoted me 4500-5000 for a meticulous job. Of course, the guy, while very polite, wondered out loud why I would consider such a thing.

I like all 3 colors, but laurel blue is a major pain to get touch up paint for. Personally I would go with either an updated Honda color or a generic classic paint color (ie. competition orange, black, white, dove gray, fire engine red, ford racing blue, british racing green) that's always available, so ya dont have to have a custom mixed batch made up any time ya need a touch up done.

I wonder if the sonic blue from the 86-87 Accords would require custom matching or if there is something currently on the market that would match. I always liked that shade of blue.

very good point about laurel blue being a major pain to get touch up paint. Even if i get a touch up kit like tim said it would be difficuilt to get more of it if something were to happen to a bumper of a fender that would need more then just a touch up. This is making me lean towards the s2k blue.


Before work i had enought time to take out the window visors and the door trim on the windows. I have to really work hard on the car during the week to get the sound dampning layer on the floor. I took the car to work today, and man! the car accelerates allot faster with out the interior lol... I do miss my armrest tho. Thats one of the only things that will be going back when i get it paitned tho :D

well im done on working on the accord today, i removed a few small plastic and rubber pieces from the door jams. I also removed the mud flaps and the rear bumper vent. Im heading out to work early so i can pass by the Honda dealer to order the front and rear bumpers :D Theres a web site that has them cheaper then honda but shipping kills! 180 in shipping alone.

thanks guys. but i think i might push the date back. ill take it in a week, i have been busy with work so i really have not had time to work on the accord. Since Thursday till today ive already put nearly 40 hours at work lol.. the good thing is that i have tomorrow off. but i burned my fingers on my right hand at work today. I have these huge bilsters on my fingers and they are sensitive right now lmao :( and i might go out on a date with this new chick ive met so well see if i can work on the accord this weekend. All i really need right now is to remove the
sound dampening
both front drive and passenger side door panels
rear seat back support
remove a few cables from the old alarm
rear window molding, front window molding
bottom part of the side window molding
a few small plastic and rubber parts.
Friday i went out to buy the dry ice that i am going to use to remove the sound damping. I searched online and i found out that dry ice is the best way to remove the sound damping :D If any of you so-cal fools wanna come down to help me out that would be great! I could use all the help i can get and ill feed u guys :P lol

The rear window trim just snaps on along the top, sides, and the top corners. The bottom is held with phillips head screws. I pulled all my old trim off, and ordered all new trim and clips for the rear and the front. I've just taped and papered off my rear window. Will be just fine and wont leave a masking edge as the new trim will go in and it will all look perfect.

Nice progress so far. You're almost ahead of mine and I've been going for over a year now...... :violin:

an easy way to take off that sound is with dry ice. i thought i saw some one here do it.

i plan on not having the carpet or the rear seats anymore. Its going to get painted along with the outside of the car.

lol i don't think i wanna shave the doors or keep the rear seats. I really don't need the rear seats since its not going to be the daily anymore, just track and show but mostly show car. Any who i went out to M.O.B works today to show them my progress with the interior and i got the thumbs up all i need to remove now are the rear passenger windows, sound dampening on the trunk and the center of the car, rear view mirrors and the driver door panel. I'm driving a ef wagon :( its a 5 speed tho :D I went out to the junk yard and found a mint hood and driver side eye lid. Ill be dropping it off at mob on Monday so they can put them on the accord

I thought you had a carbon hood, why would you need another hood? Anyways great progress, the car will definitely be show quality once it is done, especially if you are going to have a full roll cage.

I was going to do the swap now but since my accord was rear ended i just decided to use the money i had for the swap to use it for paint. ur car is so clean... i remember ur "i got rear endend" thread. ad no idea that mugen mad shuff for the 3rd gen acord. btw.... mobworks, does super badass work. i know many who have been painted by them. very good work, no attention to detail spared. ull be happy, they are pricey but worth it

Dude, i'm not gonna lie, most of the time i'll see one of these cars on the road, and I won't even look twice at them. But your car is soooo clean and I have to give you ALOT of credit for being different and using a completely different chassis that NOBODY would ever even think about using. Heck, I can bet that the majority of the people (including myself) here didn't even know Mugen manufactured parts for these cars!

There are very few who can impress me, and you sir are one of them. Doing a 3rd gen takes balls as there is not a ton of aftermarket support, but you are staying true and using Genuine Honda Parts. Front bumper will look amazing and good call on the dry ince sound deadening removal. I've always wanted to do an 89 SEi coupe w/ a B16 swap..... maybe someday

well i went out to see ole blue on monday!!!! and i forgot to take my camera! lol... I didint want to be late to work so i left really early to go out to M.O.B. I was such in a hurry to go out there that i forgot to put the camera inside the car.. M.O.B is kinda far from where i live and farther from where i work lol From my house to m.o.b is around 35 miles and like 50 from where i work. But shes all dent free!!!! they took out all of the dents and fixed the rear damage. They took out all of the parts that i didn't take out. they took out the tail lights, trunk lid, hood, front bumper, mirrors, corner lights, eye lids and a few other things. I was told by the end of this week the car should be either sprayed with primer or ready for primer. Its going to take about one to 2 weeks for them to finish painting it. Its going to receive primer, 6 coats of paint, and 3 of clear.



also im not driving the ef wagon anymore. I had to give it back today to its owner who came back from his vacation :( oh well now im driving a neon! :violin: Im still in the process of trying to find a parts car for my truck so i can get it running again :(

all i got to say is damn...i should have had my car painted there. the MUGEN bumper looks awesome. he got a new hood and another bumper painted...both look great
