WTF is a power stall? Someone said it was where you sit there and burn off your tires or sumthing.......

Is that correct, if so, how do you do it?

Ok Heres what I tried:

Right after skool...
I stopped at a stop sign and shifted into neutral. Then, I revved it to about twice the idle speed, then... dropped it into gear.
I just sat ther for a second, with the tires squeling then i finnaly took off. I smelled burned rubber, and i looked behind me, only to find a faint cloud of smoke.

I think I may have impressed some chicks at skool with this little stunt :p

if you really want to kill your tranny keep doing that...

Its easier to use the ebrake and do that rather than killing the transmision...

Lock your e-brake, rev it to 3-4000, dump the clutch, watch the smoke. Just watch to make sure you don't over rev it once the tires start to get going. With an auto just lock the e-brake and mash the gas.

Sorry but most women are not impressed by this type of behavior, they probabvly were thinking :wtf: and if they were impressed the are most likely the scary he-she type.

you could always do burnouts the cheap way....

run the washer fluid hoses by the wheels and presto...instant slick to start spinning on quicker....or add a extra pump so that you still can use the washer for the window..

or use oil ....on the tires..doesnt hurt them much but creates alot of smoke....thats what people do around here once and awhile for a show..

I tried the ebrake thing..... It didnt lock to well and the burnout wasnt all that great. Maybe I need to adjust it or get new brakepads?

Oil on the tires seems a bit messy and hazardous.....?

Sounds like you need a new clutch if your wheels won't catch the ground very well.

Clutch? Auto? :-/ Im confused

Well no wonder, its way harder to burnout in an auto compared to stickshift. Popping it into gear from neutral in an automatic is also very very bad for the transmission.

Another thing to try is power braking in an automatic... using 2 feet stepping down on your brake and easing onto the gas... Usually works pretty well.... Then just let off your gas and go

are you talking about stall speed. that is the speed that the engine revs to before the torque converter grabs so that your car launches at the optimal rev point for the most horsepower. i take it that you have an automatic, so that applies to you.

:/ Whats a torque convertor?

Dutchboy
09-19-2002, 10:37 AM
a tourque converter is a big thing full of oil ,,hooked to the tranny which exerts more tourque to the wheels during the driving range..whilst the fluid is flying around inside the sealed unit making up the converter...

heheh i dont know if thats how it works excactyl..but i made myself sound smart didnt I? :stick:

the torque converter is aka stall converter. it is like a clutch. is spins free below a certain RPM so ur car dont stall when u slow down. when u put ur foot on the brake and give it a bit of gas, the engine revs and the car dont move. so
1 apply the brakes hard in drive.
2 slowly rev the engine until the car starts to pull.
3 when ur there mash the gas and let go of the brake.
if it starts to spin, lock ur e brake and keep the RPM's constant at like 5000 or so.

there we have it.
burnout 101 for an auto tranny

for sticks,
1 clutch in
2 foot on gas
3 rev to 3000
4 dump the clutch hard in first
5 lock the ebrake for a long spin

note: if ur tires dont smoke when u do the 5 speed burnout steps, its time for a new clutch!

thats my info... try it and have fun

When I do the revving with the brake mashed, it revs to about 3K and stays there :(

E-brake...bah...Never seen an automatic grenade before, do a couple more nuetral drops and you'll see real quick.

just stomp the gas to the floor and let off when you want to stop burning the tires.

I can...it's JUST a VAN...really

Maybe im missing sumthing....

This is what i do(I have an auto):
Put it in netral
Floor it
Move it into D4
..resulting in a burnout.

Is this a bad idea?

sorry, i didn't know we were talking about an automatic at this point. new anser- hells yeah. unless you want to impress your friends, burnouts really aren't necessary in our cars unless you are running a slick that requires one. has anybody noticed a difference on street tires comparing a burnout to no burnout?

I DID IT! Without a neutral drop. I guess ive been doin it the whole time but i didnt notice.

I had someone watch my tires while i tried the non-neutral drop way, and he said the spun really frickin fast, but not too long, and it created a small amount of smoke. I could smell burnin rubber.

Im guessing my tires are getting too much traction (heh)?
Ill try armor-alling the treads :p
