so, i have a 4 door '84 accord , and i have been wanting to do something about my rust laden little auto, for quite some time now (about three years). i have been checking the local pick-n-pull religiously, as well as the ones in the east bay (Oakland, Hayward, etc.) and have never found an accord, in the same color as mine, with any decent body parts, or any decent body parts left:(. i even went to a few shops to see how much it would cost to get the body repaired, and i was quoted from $700-2,400! However, yesterday, i checked out pick-n-pull at 10 in the morning, and found a literally cherry 1985 accord. i got a driver's side fender, a new trunk lid, rear seats, a passenger door, a drivers side knuckle assembly, a gravel guard, an original owners manual (one for an 83 as well), an analog clock, and a digital clock without a loose hinge. my friend and i installed the new hub, and mounted the new door, then i put on the new trunk lid (still needs to be properly aligned, i am having trouble with that), and the new rear seats. i am currently working on swapping the trim pieces from my old fender to the new one, and then i will throw that on along with the gravel guard. i am pretty stoked to have found all of that for only $140 and now my accord will be in great shape, and i will only need to replace the seals in the taillights and kill the rust in my roof and trunk (minor). Next i will be looking for a good engine swap!:koolaid:
(pics soon)
btw, in the fender, there was about a foot of decayed or decaying plant matter, that is a great way to keep rust away! isn't it?

i just picked up a new bumper and bumper absorber, and i think i am going to get a new head liner today too. i will definitely put pix up very soon. i also got the lock done, and once i swap the bumper and head liner, i will clean the car and then go do some photo shoots around my county.

Man, I'm jealous of you finding a cherry car like that. The junk yards here always pull the glass and then it rains inside the car. Interiors turn to mold and mildew. Glad to hear you're getting her looking good. My trunk has always been a little off as well, and since the lid is from another car, I'm sure that's the main problem. Can't wait to see the pics!

Sounds good but I wonder if, even though the paint is matching, will it still "match"? It just seems that not only does the same paint code produce a slightly different shade depending on what stage the vat of paint was on assembly, but you also have to consider the effect of weather. i.e. even in the same area of the country, a car that was garaged will have different paint color than one that was outside. Just thought I'd get your thoughts on that. Sounds like you've got some great stuff ahead of you. Nice to have good material to work with.
Where are you going to get a new headliner? I re-upholstered mine myself and it wasn't a fun or easy job.

Also, for the trunk lid, have you tried putting some sort of shims so that it's aligned, but not bolted in. Then get in the trunk with a flashlight, or have someone else in there, and mark the bolt location with a marker. Keep up the good work and post some pics.

Ha yeah, it makes me cry about the SE-i's. They're ALWAYS beat. I've never, ever, ever, ever, seen a cherry SE-i. I have seen pics of a SUPER clean '83 SE, but only that one. :-/ It's like once the leather goes, people just say "fuck it" and the rest of the car goes with it.

ok, a few things to reply to:
trunk lid; i got inside the trunk with a flashlight, and had two people line the trunk up on the outside, but it still wasn't straight, to my satisfaction. i think i am going to ask a body shop down the street to line it up right, when i get the trunk fixed (i need to get a piece of sheet metal welded into this spot where it rusted out on the seal [currently fixed with duct tape, popsicle sticks, and silicone]).
paint; it's all already on the car, and it matches, maybe not EXACT, but very very close, it is hard to tell if it isn't matching.
SE-i; i actually almost took the tinted windows off a very cherry SE-i the same day i got the door, but one window was already taken. The bay area has a lot of 2nd Gen's, most in crap condition though.

Since you're in the bay area, you should head out to the meets they do all the time. You can check out 84Accord's hatch he has. It's pretty sweet.

well, unfortunately, the car is not in any shape to be driven right now. i am trying to find some tail light seals, the interior is stripped(minus the dash), and my molding is all off. i had a reoccurring ant infestation, and needed to find the queen, ant poison hadn't worked the past 4 years! :burn: i am also trying to do something about my headliner, it's all ripped up. also, since the head liner and molding is all off, i am going to take care of my body rot issues. then i think that i am going to be dropping an a20 a4 into it after the body and interior are finished. i really want to do my trunk up similar to yours! it's super phat. i'm going to be using that hinged metal panel idea of rockord's too.:bong:

Also, gotta say, a drop would be nice and all, but the roads out here are too shitty and there are so many f**ing speed bumps every where I go.......

Do love the pics! Glad to see you have returned! Any updates on the car? yeah sort of, not too much though. I broke both wrists last year. That has set back back quite a bit.
I guess I found the ant queen finally, so there shouldn't be anymore problems there. I put the interior back together, still need a new headliner though. As you can see I got the windows tinted. Gas mileage has been awful, I want to do an overhaul, but I think it's time for a new carb. I don't want to do any work onm this enigne though seeing as how I ultimatley want to put another type of engine in altogether.
I found a guy who will fix all of the major rust issues for free if I get the supplies, that's the best bit of news.
Did you hear stuff_ninja found two of those cassette center console things at the local pick-n-pull here?
