bullard123
11-12-2007, 05:48 PM
2 yards should be more than enough

Edit: I meant to say 2 40yard rolls should be more tha enough

it takes a bit more to do the tops of the doors due to how you have to wrap the plastic part.

Sorry to hijack.
I need to redo my interior too. my door panels are cracked near where the seat belts go in, and neat the door vents. How hard is it to find non cracked door panels at the JY? Should I just get some fiberglass and repair it instead? Where can I even buy fiberglass? Or Carbon Fiber?

Or Carbon Fiber?are you talking about the parts at the top of the door? just take it off the door panel it unscrews with a thousand screws at the back, strip the material off the plastic part, then repair as needed usually you can fix it from the back side. if you have to use fiberglass on the front, just sand it down good when you are done. then recover, it's tricky so be ready for frustration. lots of compound curves. it's a completly seperte plastic piece from the cardboard part.

yep. It's cracked at the top part. The part that's fiberglass covered in vinyl. Where can I buy fiberglass?

lostforawhile
11-12-2007, 06:19 PM
it's not fiberglass it's plastic. you can get a basic fiberglass kit at walmart or just about any auto parts store. once you strip the material off you can see what you need to do. then sand it down smooth before recovering. just takes some time, but they all crack there. mine required six repairs on one side alone.

damn that sucks. Both of my doors are like that. It's from people not pulling the seat belts all the way up when they get out of the car. I bust my friends asses for not pulling them up now.

I bust my friends asses for not pulling them up now.once you fix it it will good as new. at least it's plastic on this car some cars have paper board there. when i did my headliner the only one i could find came apart in like 12 pieces,so i had to fiberglass it all back together before i covered it. it's in the video before and after and during.

hey bullard on that pannel on the bottom it looks like it need's some stretching.
get some good spray adhesive and start in the middleof the pannel and work you'r way out.
get a hair dryer or heat gun and heat up the ends where you have those creases and stretch it to the back of the pannel. you may have to cut slits in the material to stretch them out.
the top pannel is going to be more diffacult to cover.

Yeah the curved parts are the parts I had the hardest time trying to cover. I do have a heat gun here so I will definately try that tecnique. And yeah that top part is going to be a lot of fun

Did you do yours in vinyl Lost?i did mine in fabric, but i know how to do vinal, here in the south the fabric is much nicer in the summertime, the trick to wrapping them is to start in the center and work out,you have to glue a strip in the center, and slowly stretch the vinal outwards. you have to cut it pretty oversize to go around the ends, the other trick you learn with practice is where to cut the material to relieve stress on it as you are pulling it,and also make sure no edges are showing.

i did my seats in leather,i had that ebay kit,but nothing was even close so i ripped out all the stiching and did them over. thats NOT something i want to try anytime soon again. also make sure when you wrap something, you let the glue set on the part you are wrapping, and the material,it has to dry, then you put it together. don't go cheap on the glue either, elmers spray craft glue isn't going to cut it in an automotive envorment. the majority of my car i used delta glue.

sadly i didnt have part at all in doing it, but it was done at Ls Auto Leather here in GA. the whole interior was dropped of to them and they worked their magic. And yes it really cost 4 grand. Car was being preped to be a showcar ;) so yea its dynomatted, has a molding for a 8inch dvd player on the pass side of the dash, and currently im putting in some gauges under the radio.
For the front and back seats to be wrapped alone was $362 just to give you an idea on the pices..

No that is not leather at all, its leather like seats cover installed by previous owner. when it was new. I was looking under them and discovered that seats are brand new underneath :D

i might just check with you on getting one of those consoles i really like that i of course would need the brake handle too since it's different. i would hope to findf one with the switches
i was going to install headlight washers anyway. also is there a control box for the seat heaters or something? i was going to install a set of seat heaters from electric life.

I'm really dont know about control box, last time I checked there all wiring was connected directly only drawback is that seat heater connected on both seats at the same switch.. as one..
I can look at the JY, but after Christmastime, have lots to do at the moment.. We can make a deal if you wish, I want arm rest, you want one I have. we can make an even exchange :D but I'll gona need e-brake handle as well.

i might just check with you on getting one of those consoles i really like that i of course would need the brake handle too since it's different. i would hope to findf one with the switches
i was going to install headlight washers anyway. also is there a control box for the seat heaters or something? i was going to install a set of seat heaters from electric life.

its a pretty even swap. I took a piece of 1/4 in aluminum stock and beveled it on the drivers side to allow for the new mounting location. after that I drilled the stock holes to use the stock bolts. Only problem fundementally is it does sit the 1/4 in spacer higher. To me I notice it because I know everything about my car. Everyone that I ask doesnt notice anything.

Mine is the dark grey and im missing the spring for the door behind the ebrake. Id love to get a replacement if anyone comes across a good assembly for just the door and pocket.
