Hello so I've been a member for a bit now and have yet to post. I've been reading and reading about this car and trying to rebuild the one I have, a gray 87 LX-i hatchy A20A3 5sp.

Well I got my motor out and have been ripping it down. I got to the point to take my crank in to mic it. Well I left a mount on the block that had been loose when I took out the motor, the one on the timing-B side. I took it off and there it is a 3-inch long crack right under it running though the upper threading.

I don’t know what to do now. I looked for posts about cracked blocks in that area and found nothing. So I was wondering if I could risk the rebuild with a crack there or if I should look for either a new motor or new accord.
Any help on this would be awesome thanks.

your local junkyard. or some members here have spare motors. also the 84-87 prelude had the same engine as the accord from 86-89 just make sure its a a20a3 fuel injected one. before i knew about cars i got my engine imported from japan wreckers for like 450(thoes low mile engines) but since you are rebuilding it wont mater the jy should not cost more than like 300 bucks for an engine.

yeah ive seen that happen a handful of times. One time we had the block welded and it held but youre best off getting another one.

Only certain speciality shops deal in welding a cracked block. Better off getting a used one by a far.

id check a junkyard for a motor, try to get one with the least amount of miles. usually cost about 300 bux.
